Previous two weeks (July 19 - July 30) - Collective effects in Riad, Vasiliy, Slava's EDM proposal - I'm requested by Riad and Slava to look at the CSR and microbunching instability problems in their EDM ring - I started to look at both problems. It may take some time for me to finish these studies - CBB and TCBI - Continue with the tune space exploration - Thinking about how to improve the model so as to eliminate the artificial tune dependence of the TCBI growth rate resulted from the over-simplification of the model in our study - Continue to summarize my results in preparation for paper writing---there are too many results that need to be organized for this report - Responded to Chris Mayes request about my view of recent development of 2D/3D CSR modeling, in support to his preparation for article writing on this topic for the upcoming ICFA newsletter Next two weeks (Aug 2 - Aug 13) - Collective effects in Riad, Vasiliy, Slava's EDM proposal - Send Riad email about my understanding of the issue and approach needed. I still need to get into more details of this problem - CBB and TCBI - Had some deeper looks at the effect of working points on the interplay of CBB/TCBI. Interesting behaviors show up when the two coherent spectral bands collide/overlap. - Finished writing up a summary of my recent tune-scan results and sent it to Mike Blaskiewicz - Got some ideas about how to eliminate the artificial tune dependence of the TCBI growth rate resulted from the over-simplification of the model in our study - Still need to think through about the effect of nonlinearity of beam-beam on the correct modeling of the multi-bunch coupling via the long-range transverse wake.

Previous two weeks (July 5 - July 16) - I was working with new lattice design with isochronous arc. Initial particle tracking was performed. Next two weeks (July 19 - July 30) - I will be working on dual energy storage ring cooler design with new design using isochronous arc lattice. Further modications and stability criteria of such a new lattice will be carried out. More calculations with particle tracking simulations will be carried out

Previous two weeks (July 5 - July 16) - Laser particle counter: Continued data analysis of 6-channel data with 1-2 Hz wire sweeping rate. Vendor visit on July 6 focused on observation of different operating modes and implications on event identification both pre and post data analysis. Currently seeing 3-4 operating modes in which events are often seen in one of the two available signals per channel, and trying to understand why channels switch between operating modes as the system settles. Vendor returned on July 14 with updated software allowing for higher data resolution in both signals (shared bandwidth between the two signals) and an updated algorithm for offline analysis of the signals that relies on calculating and subtracting a noise spectrum from the raw data. - Discussion with M. Poelker on studies of gas bremsstrahlung in the CEBAF linacs, possibility of detection using radiation monitors, and mitigation efforts including ion clearing gaps. Literature study on gas bremsstrahlung in electron storage rings and ion clearing methods at Cornell. Discussion with M. Poelker and J. Grames on July 12. Next two weeks (July 19 - July 30) - Literature study on gas bremsstrahlung in electron storage rings and ion clearing methods. Working with J. Grames and M. Poelker to continue studies of gas bremsstrahlung in the CEBAF linacs. - Laser particle counter: Continued system debugging, optimization, and data analysis to better understand operational modes. Swapped the sensors driving channels 0 and 2 to test whether the noise in channel 0 is fiber driven or sensor driven. Vendor will return July 27-28 with remaining 18 sensors for full 24 channel capability. The additional sensors should have better signal to noise response than the initial 6 channels.
