       - I was working on IPAC2021 papers. We accepted an invitation for "Contributed Talk" from IPAC'21 on \Beam Dynamics Study in a Dual Energy Storage Ring Cooler". Papers were completed and sent it for review among the group members. After review, some corrections were made and updated almost to the final version. Papers are ready to submit at IPAC'21.
 +
      - I was working with JSPEC (Jefferson Lab Simulation Package for Electron Cooling). I am using JSPEC in Sirepo (from Radiasoft). Cooling rates were estimated using eRHIC proton lattice parameters using both Meshkov and Parkhomchuk formula implemented in JSPEC.
 +
      - Meshkov cooling force formula works better in dual energy storage ring. It shows good cooling rates less than an hour in both horizontal and longitudinal dimensions.

      - '''Isotopes: '''I spent time preparing a talk that Steve will present at the APS April Meeting.  For this, I started to try and lock down our production numbers and had several meetings about it.  It is still not so clear!  I had an

excellent talk with Ethan Balkin. our Program Manager, and sent the noted already.  Since the Isotope Program will not have an FOA before this summer (and we don’t know what form it will take) I have started looking into other funding

sources. There may be a possibility of seeking SBIR funds, I have feelers out!  Lila will finish up her program on decay modes of all of the isotopes and will publish that at IPAC’21.  She will not have time to complete the other part

of the program, the daughter isotopes produced when a 𝛾, n, p,d,or 𝛼 strike the mother. I have changed Loida’s project to complete this part of the program, and then have Lila and Loida publish the final result together. There was an

excellent article on gallium in Physics Today by Michael Dickey at North Carolina State in Raleigh.  I contacted him and will be talking with him next week.  I think he will be an excellent collaborator if I can talk him into joining us.

      - '''ERLs: '''The panel met and we have assigned writing tasks, most have accepted.  The timeline is to produce a very first draft in May so that there can be an “community meeting" in June to present the rough vision and seek input. This

has to happen before the CERN SPC on June 22,23 and the CERN Council meeting June 26.  So that will be a fair amount of work over the next couple of months.

      - '''PERLE: '''I contacted Jean-Luc Biarrotte directly, in French, and actually got a response.  Their marked up copy of the ICRADA was delivered, I forwarded it to Rhonda who has contacted me about her comments, and I think it is close to

going up to the DOE again - I think!

       - HiPer/HiPER Linac: I am continuing to follow up with Framatome and BWXT, and will be writing up an LDRD proposal.  Do you prefer High Performance Linac (HiPer) or High Power, Efficiency and Reliability Linac (HiPER)?
+
      - '''Isotopes: '''The Quarterly Report has been written and is being submitted today.  We are still trying to understand the data from the irradiations.  Our best guess at the moment is that FLUKA 2020, which now calculates Copper67 production correctly, underestimates the production of Gallium67.  Since we calculate the amount of Copper67 from the ratio derived from the calibration, the crucible experimental data is a factor of ~2 greater than FLUKA.  We are continuing to investigateI already wrote to you about the new FOA; this was discussed at the Isotope Meeting and our UVA collaborators are on board to take the lead.
 +
      - '''ERL Roadmap: '''The first draft of the report is due mid may, so things are heating up.  I have started on my sections, but have a lot more to do.
 +
      - '''PERLE: '''Rumor has it that we are really close.  JLab has accepted the latest CNRS edits and the ICRADA has been sent to the DOE for concurrence.  In a video conference with Achille Stocchi, Director of IJCLab, and Jean-Luc Biarrotte, CNRS Directorate, Jean-Luc stated that CNRS are ready to sign this version.  So maybe we are getting there!
 +
      - '''HiPERLAC:''' new name, the pre-Proposal has been uploaded to the Division site and emailed to Leigh.  I have not heard back from BWXT (they have just been named as one of two proposals for micro-reactors for DOE funding and are preparing their next steps) and Framatome (it has been passed to their technical experts).
 +
      - VCU Engineering Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering: the Industrial Advisory Board met this week.  the focus was on changing the course offerings to attract more people to the Department.  They have been losing out to computer engineering, including cyber security.  They wanted the advice of the local industries as to which courses would be best adapted for hiring, so I was not much use.
 +
      - '''VNACA: '''Also met this week.  There was presentation by a policy wonk as to the impact of all of the new initiatives, including the Infrastructure Bill, and the various climate initiatives.  Nuclear seems to be well integrated into this as it is now generally seen as a green energy source.  Hopefully, this will positively impact approval of HIPERLAC!

Previous two weeks (Apr 12 - Apr 23)
     - QCM energy gain puzzle solved. It only took me 24 pages of writing and the corresponding amount of simulation effort to discover that one of the field probe amplifiers was clipping at high levels and a select few had known about it all along and had deliberately set it up that way. People don't talk to each other, it seems like, because other members of the RF group had vehemently rejected the idea until we remeasured it. It was a fun academic exercise, though, and I got to convince people of the merit of doing simulations in parallel to commissioning. It's also possible they think I'm a pain in the butt, who knows.
     - Started looking at The Prebuncher Mystery.
Next two weeks (Apr 26 - May 7)

     - I was working on IPAC2021 papers. We accepted an invitation for "Contributed Talk" from IPAC'21 on \Beam Dynamics Study in a Dual Energy Storage Ring Cooler". Papers were completed and sent it for review among the group members. After review, some corrections were made and updated almost to the final version. Papers are ready to submit at IPAC'21.
     - Meshkov cooling force formula works better in dual energy storage ring. It shows good cooling rates less than an hour in both horizontal and longitudinal dimensions.
Next two weeks (Apr 26 - May 7)
     - I will be working on IPAC'21 contributed talk presentation .
     - I will be working on IPAC'21 poster presntation.

Amy Sy

Previous two weeks (Apr 12 - Apr 23)
     - Working with the Brown-Servranckx transform for round, uncoupled beam from a magnetized beam. This requires some non-conservative process in between the magnetized beam transform and the Brown-Servranckx transform - currently investigating the possibility of using space charge to facilitate this. Looking into the space charge modules in PyORBIT for applicability. The TRACK code doesn't appear to accept arbitrary matrix inputs for beamline definition, so is harder to work with for these purposes.
     - Laser particle counter: Vendor now targeting the week of May 3 for delivery of the 12-channel prototype detector. A lab bench has been moved from storage into TL 1011 for setup of the existing test apparatus. Will be on-site on 4/19 to observe/assist with reassembly of the test apparatus. Previously considered utilizing a "gene gun" apparatus to launch single particles in calibration tests, but this type of apparatus is not compatible with the size and speed of particulates to be measured with this detector. Looking into modified bead-pull measurements or a stepper motor setup for testing in air.
Next two weeks (Apr 26 - May 7)
     - Continued work with the Brown-Servranckx transform for round, uncoupled beam from a magnetized beam. This requires some non-conservative process in between the magnetized beam transform and the Brown-Servranckx transform - currently investigating the possibility of using space charge to facilitate this. Looking into the space charge modules in PyORBIT for applicability. Dimensionality of the space charge solver greatly affects the tracked beam sizes - working to understand the proper way to utilize the different space charge solver routines.
    - Laser particle counter: relocated test apparatus to TL 1011, but still need to work with the Detector group to reassemble the components. Vendor has experienced some shipping delays of hardware components and wants to complete some internal testing before bringing the 12-channel prototype on site - tentatively rescheduled the vendor site visit for the week of May 10. Also working to get a PC dedicated to the particle counter experiments.
    - Meeting with Omnisensing Photonics to discuss software development progress.
    - Usual biweekly meeting with Omnisensing Photonics to discuss general progress.
    - Review of student applications as part of the selection committee for MFURA awards.

Andrew Hutton

Previous two weeks (Apr 12 - Apr 23)
     - Vacation: April 10 - April 17
     - Isotopes: There is still a lot of discussion to try and lock down the results o the two irradiations. This was partially achieved for the APS talk given by Steve, but we are still working on it. The new FOA came out from the DOE Isotope program for training File:DE-FOA-0002508.pdf We will discuss how best to respond on Friday. Lila is getting to the end of her work, with assistance from Todd (thanks).
     - ERL Roadmap: Still working with Max Klein. No further news on PERLE, apart from an email acknowledging receipt of our marked up copy which is now in the hands of the IN2P3 lawyers (again).
     - JJCLab: I received an invitation to be on their International Scientific Council.
     - FCC-ee: I participated in a r review of the Injector and made several comments. The Review closeout discussion is on Thursday. I could not resist suggesting that they look at the LHeC electron complex as the injector (this includes the ERL design by Alex).
     - HIPERLAC: I am continuing to follow up with Framatome and BWXT, and will be writing up an LDRD proposal.
Next two weeks (Apr 26 - May 7)
     - Isotopes: The Quarterly Report has been written and is being submitted today. We are continuing to investigate. I already wrote to you about the new FOA; this was discussed at the Isotope Meeting and our UVA collaborators are on board to take the lead.
     - ERL Roadmap: The first draft of the report is due mid may, so things are heating up. I have started on my sections, but have a lot more to do.
     - PERLE: Rumor has it that we are really close.
     - HiPERLAC: new name, the pre-Proposal has been uploaded to the Division site and emailed to Leigh. I have not heard back from BWXT (they have just been named as one of two proposals for micro-reactors for DOE funding and are preparing their next steps) and Framatome (it has been passed to their technical experts).
     - VNACA: Also met this week.
