With the loss of Frank Marhauser and all the EIC work, I do not see Jefferson Lab having a big involvement in the SRF for PERLE, so maybe we can work with DESY to participate in the SRF.   Hopefully,

Previous two weeks (July 19 - July 30)
     - Collective effects in Riad, Vasiliy, Slava's EDM proposal
            - I'm requested by Riad and Slava to look at the CSR and microbunching instability problems in their EDM ring
            - I started to look at both problems. It may take some time for me to finish these studies
     - CBB and TCBI
            - Continue with the tune space exploration
            - Thinking about how to improve the model so as to eliminate the artificial tune dependence of the TCBI growth rate resulted
from the over-simplification of the model in our study
            - Continue to summarize my results in preparation for paper writing---there are too many results that need to be organized
              for this report
     - Responded to Chris Mayes request about my view of recent development of 2D/3D CSR modeling, in support to his preparation for
article writing on this topic for the upcoming ICFA newsletter
Next two weeks (Aug 2 - Aug 13)
     - Collective effects in Riad, Vasiliy, Slava's EDM proposal
             - Send Riad email about my understanding of the issue and approach needed. I still need to get into more details of this problem
     - CBB and TCBI
             - Had some deeper looks at the effect of working points on the interplay of CBB/TCBI. Interesting behaviors show up when the two coherent spectral bands collide/overlap.
             - Finished writing up a summary of my recent tune-scan results and sent it to Mike Blaskiewicz
             - Got some ideas about how to eliminate the artificial tune dependence of the TCBI growth rate resulted from the over-simplification of the model in our study
             - Still need to think through about the effect of nonlinearity of beam-beam on the correct modeling of the multi-bunch coupling via the long-range transverse wake.

Amy Sy

Previous two weeks (July 5 - July 16)
     - Laser particle counter: Continued data analysis of 6-channel data with 1-2 Hz wire sweeping rate. Vendor visit on July 6 focused on observation of different operating modes and implications on event
identification both pre and post data analysis. Currently seeing 3-4 operating modes in which events are often seen in one of the two available signals per channel, and trying to understand why channels
switch between operating modes as the system settles. Vendor returned on July 14 with updated software allowing for higher data resolution in both signals (shared bandwidth between the two signals) and
an updated algorithm for offline analysis of the signals that relies on calculating and subtracting a noise spectrum from the raw data.
     - Discussion with M. Poelker on studies of gas bremsstrahlung in the CEBAF linacs, possibility of detection using radiation monitors, and mitigation efforts including ion clearing gaps. Literature study
on gas bremsstrahlung in electron storage rings and ion clearing methods at Cornell. Discussion with M. Poelker and J. Grames on July 12.
Next two weeks (July 19 - July 30)
     - Literature study on gas bremsstrahlung in electron storage rings and ion clearing methods. Working with J. Grames and M. Poelker to continue studies of gas bremsstrahlung in the CEBAF linacs.
     - Laser particle counter: Continued system debugging, optimization, and data analysis to better understand operational modes. Swapped the sensors driving channels 0 and 2 to test whether the noise in
channel 0 is fiber driven or sensor driven. Vendor will return July 27-28 with remaining 18 sensors for full 24 channel capability. The additional sensors should have better signal to noise response
       than the initial 6 channels.

Previous two weeks (Aug 2 - Aug 13)
     - Isotopes and Loida: while on vacation, I realized that Loida’s program could be easily modified to carry out the same search for new isotope pathways for all of the possible projectiles: neutrons, protons, deuterons and alpha particles. This should enable us to identify possible new pathways for most, if not all of the isotopes on the DOE-ONP Isotope Program “Most Wanted” list. For this, Loida will modify her program and run it for different input conditions. I have arranged with Balśa to pay her for four hours a week through Christmas to do this, in addition to paying her time while she is at AccApp’ 2021 presenting the results. My part will be to provide a written paper based on the results - the intention is to submit it to a refereed journal.
     - ERL:we had the second meeting of the ERL sub-Panel devoted to discussing the ERLC. At the first meeting, Akira Yamamoto had prepared a 30 slide presentation with cost and power calculations, which we are now looking at offline. Progress will be slow in August due to vacations, but will resume full swing in September. We have been accorded a delay for delivering the conclusion until the end of September. In the meantime, I wrote a draft of our conclusions for the CERC, and sent it around for the sub-Panel members to add, delete or modify. The ERL Panel has not yet resumed looking at the actual roadmap, but will start soon. I know what I think it should be; now I have to persuade my more timid colleagues!
     - PERLE ICRADA: after about a year, the documents have been returned by the French side and are now with DOE. I do have a concern that with the recent losses in the SRF R&D Department, we may have problems fulfilling our intended scope. This will come up in earnest when the DOE signs the ICRADA. after about a year, the documents have been returned by the French side and are now with DOE. - I received an invitation to be a Technical Program Committee member for the International Conference on Accelerators for Research and Sustainable Development to be held at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna, Austria, May 23-27, 2022. I advertised this widely, including Stuart (current Chair of ICFA), who suggested that I also send it to Thomas Roser as the Chair of the ICFA Panel on Sustainable Accelerators and Colliders, which I did. Thomas noted that ICFA was not an “invited organization” and I initiated contacts so that ICFA would be included ion the conference.
