- Demonstrated photo-assisted field emission (circular polarization above band-gap) from p- and n- type bulk (100) GaAs
- With applied field 2-3 MV/m produce QE~0.01% and polarization 30-40%
- Melting of tip suggests <20nA, which is OK for low energy Mott scattering
- Suggest only mW's of power at wavelength NIR corresponding to energy < gamma point gap=1.42eV
- Estimated effective emission radius=5nm and angle=10mrad, implying a brightness of about 1E7 A /cm2/sr
