Agenda and Notes
1. Schedule
- Near term schedule Media:img_3163.jpg
2. Operations (A brief description of the highlights for the past week at CHL's, ESR, HDR, CTF)
CHL1 SC1 CC5 shutdown twice this week on rotor imbalance. Preliminary checks of the hardware did not locate any issues. Investigation seems to point to a change in process conditions due to the hang-up of the floating pressure software that resulted in T4 back pressuring the CC train. This increased back pressure may have pushed the cc5 vertical amplifiers off enough that we ran out of control space allowing the position sensor to trip the box. The floating pressure SW seems to have hung following a reboot of iocch8.
The Hall D LN2 control valve stopped responding and overfilled. They called in their techs. It is unclear what corrected the problem.
Recovery compressors seem to have trouble holding on to their oil. Investigating.
3. JLAB Internal Group Projects
UIM (Wijeratne, Wright, Creel)
The shutdown is scheduled from 17 Feb - 9 Apr (Dewar Full). A job briefing was completed on 2/14/17. A presentation for the P&C Group underlined the importance of not reassigning people once the down has started. Preparations for the shutdown including lowering CTF LL have been started.
GPP (Yang, Wright)
Designers are working on the drawings for moving the Kinney pumps. Shirley has approved the current conceptual design for the suction piping. Designer is also working on the cooling water header designs. The drawings are finished for the small warm gas tie ins that we will try to install during the Feb shutdown. Paul is working on the detailed drawings. Some are ready for review. Valves have been ordered for Kinney suction lines.
Jonathan is working on the concept design of the control panels for Kinney system. The Kinney discharge piping system will be adjusted based on the required dimensions and locations of the control panels.
Jonathan has asked Buddy to take care of the Kinney motors overhaul. We'd like to see the the Kinney 2 motors to be sent out for overhaul ASAP since there is about 6 weeks before the ring pump on Kinney #2 can be sent back. The overhaul will be charged to the normal operation.
Kelly contacted the HAWKINS-HAMILTON for potential liquid ring pump replacement. The vendor proposed the NASH 2BE4 32 vacuum pump. We can adjust our current laytout for this potential replacement. But it seems that our inlet pressure is far out of the pump performance curve. Shirley is going to check with the vendor.
Reviewed the 35% concept plan for the gas management. Thilan is working on the regulator valve for the recovery mass-out valve. Need to know if the main compressor bypass valve can be sized for only running the two compressors at the same time.
Buddy is getting a price for sending out the ring pump motor for rework. This needs to be done so it can be returned before the ring pump returns.
CHL2 C6 (Perry, Creel)
Its looking probable the accelerator will shutdown 22 March. If it does the C6 work will move up if not the shutdown is planned for first week in May. A fab crew is building the piping spools. for helium, water, and oil (Willy). The electrical supplies including 4160v wire, 120v/480v conduit and wire were ordered and should be on site. The on-skid conduits and wire can be installed as well as the 4160V run from the motor to the starter. The 120V and 480V home runs cannot be installed before the shutdown because the panels are energize. We are getting a price from Paul Powers for the FM contract electricians to perform this work. Perry is working up a plan for the CHL2 shutdown. Chris will have a meeting to discuss the schedule and maintaining cleanliness as much as possible. Chris to write and coordinate approvals for commissioning plans, installation, clean-up, and pressure tests.
JLAB Guard Vac (Schleeper, Radovic)
The guard vac skid is mechanically installed. The electrical power and controls need to be finished. There is 480V and control conduit, wire, gauge panel and tubing to be installed. Roland is assembling the gauge panel. Solenoids for for inlet valves located and tested. The FM electricians have finished 480V conduit runs and pulled wire (as of 2/10/17). Mechanical need to add an air line run.
JLAB 3rd Recovery Compressor (Saringer, Creel)
On hold. The skid is mechanically finished. The skid is electrically 70% finished and Beizer is working on the electrical now and should be done this week. There is no funding or plan to install the machine yet. We need to verify the installation of the check valve on this compressor. Roland will finish the power run from compressor to starter.
JLAB recovery header rework (Saringer, Wright)
Job is being re-planned to shrink the required down time and cost.
JLAB Vaporizer (Perry, Wright)
We have most of the parts. The installation is on hold. It might be used as a filler job if things ever get light. Robert will check if there is any instrumentation and controls associated.
ESR Hall A 15K utube (Schleeper)
A new utube is being fabricated with a manual valve to replace the existing utube because it has a leak. Drawings are released but have not been delivered to Scott to see and order parts. Work is underway.
CHL to FEL Utubes (Perry, Corey)
If a designer becomes available they will be placed on this project. It is currently in Craig's queue.
Bldg 89 Conf Rm B Computer (Evans, Carlton, Creel)
We are moving forward with the installation of a PC and overhead projection monitor in the small conderence room. The projector will be installed this week. Buddy is looking for a PC.
3. JLAB External Group Projects
Hall B 12GeV (Thompson)
We have been tasked with fabricating flex lines for the solenoid can. It will take approximately 4 months. (Jay). Roland is continuing to work with Ruben on solenoid can instrumentation as needed. Torus was recooled and is ready for KPP run.
UITF (Perry, Radovic)
CM is in place but uncertain when final alignment will occur to allow the final utube measurements to be taken. Then it will take about 4-5 weeks to build the utubes. We have the parts.(Roy) The thermosiphon drawings are ready, fabrication and installation is expected to take about 2 months to build and install. Likely to be Dano's crew once they complete UIM. HDIce return line is a fill work. Its low priority. Fab is working on the thermosiphon. LN2 supply line is being worked right now. Control system has a couple of weeks of work left to do as soon as a tech becomes available. Chris will check with all parties and determine the real schedule.
CHL2 Main Compressor Oil Level Alarms (Saringer, Wright)
We are having trouble managing compressor oil levels especially when there are large ambient temperature changes. We need to work on a solution.
4. JLAB External Projects
MSU (Dixon)
We are working to accumulate the pressure systems documentation. The scope of the work is not clear. Cory and Kelly are coordinating what additional work might move to MSU from JLAB. JLAB might be picking up cryomodule design work and possible magnet work.
LCLS2 (Dixon)
We are building two recovery compressors. Due in July 17'. These will take more hours than estimated because of seismic modifications. (Issac) We are building a guard vac skid for LCLS2. Not started. Due end of October 17'(Issac)SLAC operations is interested in drafting a long term support agreement for after the machine is running. (??) Cold compressor FDR was completed last week (results unknown). PHPK is continuing to fabricate the first set of warm compressors. We might also fabricate a water skid. FDR for 2K cold box Mar 9.
