03/28/2017 Meeting
RULES: No arguing. Everyone will be heard.
Attendance
Thompson, Creel, ,Radovic, Dixon, Wright, Butler, Radovic, Wijeratne, Norton, Saringer, Schleeper, Yang, Perry, Laverdure
Goals
The purpose of this weekly meeting is to discuss plant operations and group projects with the cryogenics group managers and supervisors. During this meeting we will discuss ongoing and future projects, priorities, manpower, schedules, expenditures, and problems.
Agenda and Notes
1. Safety
Last week we identified several hand power tools that had bad cords. Some had been repaired with electrical tape. Remind people this is not allowed. You are required to check the cord each time you prepare to use a tool. If the cord is damaged the tool must be taken out of service until it is repaired.
2. Schedule
- Near term schedule Media:img_3163.jpg
3. Operations (A brief description of the highlights for the past week at CHL's, ESR, HDR, CTF)
CTF Shutdown continued. See the section below for UIM.
ESR normal:
Recovery compressors seem to have trouble holding on to their oil. Investigating either using a different check valve or adding an actuator to the butterfly valve. Mat wants to install actuators on the inlet valves.
CTF K2 motor ready to reinstall. The K2 pump is scheduled to return
CHL Purifier high DP after the LN2 boiler. After the purifier was cleaned up and put on line, just like the other purifier, there is now a high DP somewhere between the outlet of the LN2 boiler and the return side of the HX. Also, the relief on the on-line purifier seems to be lifting at 230 psig vs its set point of 265psig. We are making plans to remove the relief and send it out to have it rebuilt/calibrated.
Utubes likely next week.
Things that need looking at.
CHL2 LHe Dewar liquid level readback is noisy
CHL1 MCB and SC1 vacuum system refurb and add readbacks
4. JLAB Internal Group Projects
UIM (Wijeratne, Wright, Creel)
The shutdown is scheduled from 17 Feb - 9 Apr (Dewar Full). A job briefing was completed on 2/14/17. A presentation for the P&C Group underlined the importance of not reassigning people once the down has started. Preparations for the shutdown including lowering CTF LL have been started.
Shutdown is underway. Plant is warm.
Purifiers will be online tomorrow. Pressure tests planned for Thursday. Controls work should be done by the weekend.
GPP (Yang, Wright)
Designers are working on the drawings for moving the Kinney pumps. Shirley has approved the current conceptual design for the suction piping. Designer is also working on the cooling water header designs. The drawings are finished for the small warm gas tie ins that we will try to install during the Feb shutdown. Paul is working on the detailed drawings. Some are ready for review. Valves have been ordered for Kinney suction lines.
Kelly contacted the HAWKINS-HAMILTON for potential liquid ring pump replacement. The vendor proposed the NASH 2BE4 32 vacuum pump. We can adjust our current laytout for this potential replacement. But it seems that our inlet pressure is far out of the pump performance curve. Shirley is going to check with the vendor - UPDATE: NASH AT3006 with a minimum inlet pressure of 1 in Hg abs was recommended by vendor.
Reviewed the 35% concept plan for the gas management. Thilan is working on the regulator valve for the recovery mass-out valve. Need to know if the main compressor bypass valve can be sized for only running the two compressors at the same time.
Gas management tie-ins were finished.
35% of gas management concept plan was reviewed on Mar. 2, 2017. Several issues were discussed:
1. The maximum air pressure for both Fisher and Badger control valve regulators were confirmed. 2. Robert / Jonathan and Mat are going to look options for new pressure transducers for the new gas management skid. The local tabs are required. 3. Robert is going to look how to run tubing and conduit. 4. Need to determine (Thilan, Mat and Shirley?)if the flow meter needs to be installed on the skid. 5. Thilan is going to check the cooling water header to make sure it is sized properly.
CHL2 C6 (Perry, Creel)
The accelerator is off. We are working on starting the C6 installation work soon. We will install the conduit and wiring ourselves.
JLAB Guard Vac (Schleeper, Radovic)
-Grouting will be added to the feet/legs of the skid. The legs will need to be shorten to support this. (ops) -Taps need to be added to the pump suction. (fab) -remove/route the conduit (Electrical) -remove railing (ops) -Instrument Air line (fab) -final assembly of pump/filters (ops) -controls (electrical)
JLAB 3rd Recovery Compressor (Saringer, Creel)
On hold. The skid is mechanically finished. The skid is electrically 99% finished. We need to verify the installation of the check valve on this compressor. We are missing one pressure gauge.
JLAB recovery header rework (Saringer, Wright)
Job is being re-planned to shrink the required down time and cost.
JLAB Vaporizer (Perry, Wright)
We have most of the parts. The installation is on hold. It might be used as a filler job if things ever get light. Robert will check if there is any instrumentation and controls associated.
CHL to FEL Utubes (Perry, Corey)
If a designer becomes available they will be placed on this project. It is currently in Craig's queue.
CHL LN2 Dewar Instrumentation Replacement (Schleeper, Thompson)
CHL LN2 Pressure Building Coil leaks (Schleeper, Thompson, Hunewill)
ESR Carbon Replacement (Schleeper, Butler)
ESR Oil Containment (Schleeper, Thompson)
CHL1 Regeneration Skid Removal (Schleeper, Thompson)
5. JLAB External Group Projects
Hall B 12GeV (Thompson)
We have been tasked with fabricating flex lines for the solenoid can. It will take approximately 4 months. (Jay). Roland is continuing to work with Ruben on solenoid can instrumentation as needed. Solenoid is expected in May.
UITF (Perry, Radovic)
CM is in place but uncertain when final alignment will occur to allow the final utube measurements to be taken. Then it will take about 4-5 weeks to build the utubes. We have the parts.(Roy) The thermosiphon drawings are ready, fabrication and installation is expected to take about 2 months to build and install. Likely to be Dano's crew once they complete UIM. HDIce return line is a fill work. Its low priority. Fab is working on the thermosiphon. LN2 supply line is being worked right now. Control system has a couple of weeks of work left to do as soon as a tech becomes available. Chris will check with all parties and determine the real schedule.
Quarter CM is being installed. Fab is waiting on parts for thermosiphon.
Thermosiphon and utubes are being fabricated. The electrical controls work will start after the UIM is finished.
CHL2 Main Compressor Oil Level Alarms (Saringer, Wright)
We are having trouble managing compressor oil levels especially when there are large ambient temperature changes. We need to work on a solution.
NL cooldown header re-connection (Schleeper, Wright)
There is a purge plan, will be performed AFTER CHL u-tube operations. Re-connection will happen thereafter.
SRF is planning to replace cold windows on 13 modules
6. JLAB External Projects
MSU (Dixon)
Done.
Robert is still working 2K controls.
LCLS2 (Dixon)
We are building two recovery compressors. Due in July 17'. These will take more hours than estimated because of seismic modifications. (Issac) We are building a guard vac skid for LCLS2. Not started. Due end of October 17'(Issac)SLAC operations is interested in drafting a long term support agreement for after the machine is running. (??) Cold compressor FDR was completed last week (results unknown). PHPK is continuing to fabricate the first set of warm compressors. We might also fabricate a water skid. FDR for 2K cold box Mar 9.
LCLS2 is indicating we could pick and choose a host of items we could build for them such as 230 bayonets in approximately 6-7 months.
