UPDATE NSF

MECHANICAL DESIGN

  • Two crystal layout options
  • regular
  • rows shifted to minimize empty space
  • with the current beam flange this gives 0.15 higher eta (corresponding to ~half a block) on one of the sides; on the other sides there does not seem to be much gain
  • no significant extra mechanical material needed
  • Discussion about different treatment of these rows of blocks in terms of clustering reconstruction
  • more difficult
  • balance gain in acceptance with difficulty
  • general consensus is that it should be possible to have a clustering reconstruction algorithm that can take care of the irregular shape, but needs to be checked
  • Discussion about different size blocks in that region
  • instrumenting irregular block sizes with SiPMS+boards would be more challenging
  • integrating different block sizes might be challenging
  • In general, people are in favor of increasing acceptance, but concerns about clustering with irregular shape - try to study with clustering algorithm
  • Renee will talk to Dmitry
  • Justin will talk to Sasha

READOUT - SIPM

  • SiPMs with 6mm x 6mm were sent to
  • Larry got boards made and assembled with SiPMs
  • Considering to send some of them to Germany for radiation testing

SLOW CONTROLS

  • Items that may need more discussion
  • gas system: how to design such a system in a more open geometry compared to NPS
  • LED system
  • power supplies for 3000 channels
  • Comment on interaction between calibration and slow
