DISCUSSION ITEMS

  • Power deposition/stress calculations
  • TCS Updates
  • Other

PARTICIPANTS: Bogdan Wojsekthowski, Donal Day, Hamlet Mkrtchyan, Josh Crafts, Tanja Horn, Steven Lassiter, Vardan Tadevosyan, Amy Comer, Arshak Asaturyan, Gabriel Niculescu, Marie Boer

POWER DEPOSITION/STRESS CALCULATIONS (Bogdan, Amy, Steven L.)

  • Investigations of stress with simplified model - applied 1kW - found that cuts help in reducing stress
  • OPERA (usually used for EM fields) also allows to calculate stress - heat deposition only along z (segmented)
  • Full 3D calculations with heat deposition in both z and x/y - requires many elements
  • longer cu absorber would be good to better distribute heat (6 kW at end)
  • investigate downstream heat distribution in more detail beyond cu
  • upstream side: impact of beam missteering
  • conjugate heat transfer; cooling efficiency - making good progress with FLUENT calculations
  • Actions items:
  • finalize stress with all cuts and distributions
  • investigate material under radiation - in particular horizontal swelling
  • investigate impact of misteering on upstream part - narrow piece, geometry dependent effect
  • cross check calculations (Bogdan, Steven)
  • absorber design getting close to starting with magnet design
  • write design parameters (dump viewer, radiation monitor, etc.)

TCS UPDATES (Vardan)

  • Polar angle dependence of rate - study any further reduction in background
  • Background seems more concentrated at small polar angles - could reduce background by factor 2 to ~60kHz if cut on polar angle 8 degrees and reduce detection efficiency from 75% to 72%
  • Action items
  • further investigate timing (<50ns) - for trigger can use pulse rise time 3-5ns
  • impact of magnetic field - could collect unpolarized data
