TEAM ACTIVITIES PRESENTATIONS

IJCLAB-ORSAY (Carlos)

  • Much expertise with calorimeters design and construction - one of the most recent projects: Neutral Particle Spectrometer; also active in EIC eRD1 calorimeter consortium crystal/glass project
  • Specific expertise in scintillators include:
  • simulations and component characterization (light yield, transmittance, etc.) - full test bench available
  • EM irradiation facility (0.01-100 Gy/min)
  • Interest in readout, e.g., development of backend and frontend electronics - experience from ATLAS ASIC development
  • Expertise in design and engineering
  • machine shop and prototype development and fabrication
  • Possible contributions to EEEMCal R&D
  • mechanical
  • prototypes
  • (micro)electronics development
  • ACTIONS:
  • EEEMCal specifications - collect on the Wiki
  • Prepare list of R&D items

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN CALO DESIGN (Cristiano)

  • Have built a model based on observation of detector response
  • detector - multi-dimensional combinatorial problem
  • AI can suggest next set of parameters to investigate at each point
  • Expertise
  • Bayesian optimization - including early stopping criteria to optimize computing resources
  • Multi-Objective Functions - Pareto front, simultaneous optimization not dominated by either objective
  • Examples of ongoing projects
  • AerFi - mechanical reinforcement of aerogel tiles
  • EEEMCal - crystal/glass material selection optimization
  • optimization could be extended to include barrel
  • tracking may also need to be considered
