EEEMCAL IN DETECTOR PROPOSALS

ATHENA: z = 195cm R_in = 11 cm (eta ~ -3.5) = R_min_PWO R_max_PWO = 53cm (eta ~2) = R_min_Glass R_max_total = 100 cm (eta ~ 1.4) = R_max_Glass

Modules PWO = ~ 2200 (2 x 2 x 20 cm3) Modules Glass = ~ 1400 (4 x 4 x 40 cm3) Total weight: ~ 2400 kg

If assume all PWO for this volume: 7600 PWO modules Weight ~ 7000 kg

ECCE: z = 190 cm R_min = 11cm (eta ~3.5) = R_min_PWO R_max_PWO = 49cm (eta ~2) = R_min_Glass R_max_total = 57 cm (eta ~1.9) = R_max_Glass

Modules PWO = 1680 (2 x 2 x 20 cm3) Modules Glass = 160 (4 x 4 x 40 cm3) Total weight: ~1500 kg

If assume all PWO for this volume: 2960 PWO modules Total weight ~ 2000kg

CORE

z R_min R_max

Attach to universal frame, thickness of frame - more sensitive to dead material

SIMULATIONS

Tolerance material in front of EMCal - ongoing studies

e/pi studies ongoing

  • ECCE produced some simulation data samples that are used for these studies

implementations - both are implemented in

  • barrel SciGlass (Nathaly)
  • EEEMCAL Fun4All (Carlos)
  • EEEMCAL DD4HEP (Vladimir/Dmitry)
  • ATHENA simulation campaign planned for August
  • Will include hybrid EEEMCal
  • ECCE simulation campaign 21 June uses PWO only EEEMcal and sphenix barrel EMCal - does not yet have EEEMcal hybrid or SciGlass barrel
  • hybrid EEEMCal and Sciglass barrel will be in next ECCE simulation campaign

DESIGN EEEMCAL

Initial design prepared

Cooling would be water cooling around circumference plus possible mechanical cooling from the back

  • must also take into account cabling from back

Beam pipe

Main questions:

  • beam pipe
  • support limitations at universal frame
  • thickness of outer and inner radius

Action items:

  • prepare summary of questions
  • discussion with EIC PM

PWO+SIPM DETECTOR UPDATE

  • Found a way to include 16 SiPM per crystal
  • Discussion about services and integration for beam test
  • Action item:
  • prepare list of services needed for discussion with HallD electrical engineer

BEAM TESTS 2021

  • If planning to participate please contact:
  • For DESY tests: Douglas Hasell
  • For JLAB tests: Tanja Horn

NEXT MEETING: MONDAY 26 JULY 2021 AT 8:30AM ET
