EEEMCAL IN DETECTOR PROPOSALS OVERALL

  • Simulation analysis ongoing
  • EEEMCal teams working on validation of calorimeter performance - ATHENA: AANL, ECCE: U. Kentucky, IJCLab-Orsay
  • Cost estimates for EEEMCal submitted to detector proposals
  • assumes in-kind as documented in the EOI


MATERIAL IMPACT STUDY (Sasha)

  • Performed study of material impact in front of calorimeter - extension of YR study
  • 5 interaction length can impact things considerably - recon cluster associated with track may not be enough as electron radiates --> should reconstruct clusters also associated with radiated photon; calorimeter should measure down to 50 MeV
  • 5% of radiation length within 1m then have considerable impact; impact of material within 50cm of calo can tolerate more
  • magnetic field dependent - impact more severe for higher field


MECHANICAL DESIGN (Julien, Carlos)

  • Presentation and discussion
  • estimation of load and resulting deformation and stress on inner ring -- suggests that 5mm is sufficient
  • sensor and PCB positioning
  • cables/services positioning
  • flange location and impact on crystal inner radius - currently at ~-3.5 in eta, may reach smaller eta if flange could be moved (not trivial due to access and servicing)
  • Impact of different size glass vs. crystal on load on inner ring
  • should not be a problem since also have carbon inner structure - can't move
  • Carbon inner structure
  • no special structure between crystal and glass
  • Action items:
  • Temperature impact - different sizes
  • check if longer glass, e.g., 50cm instead of 40cm would be a problem for mechanical structure, e.g., inner ring load
  • Flange position


BEAM TESTS

DESY

  • Preparations ongoing
  • shipment expected end of September
  • Covid travel

JLAB

  • Delays with beam start up in Hall D. Discussion on revised prototype beam test scheduling in next few days
  • Expect first phase of calorimeter beam test program in beginning of October


CRYTUR PROTOTYPE

  • Prototype has been assembled and tested at Crytur - results look very good
  • PWO was cooled to -25degC for signal test
  • Power supply is external
  • Plan to ship prototype to CUA ~October 10th to arrive around October 18th
  • Plan to travel to CUA to assist with the assembly and any initial testing
