FUNDING
- have met with EIC PM in June 2022
- sent follow-up info to EIC PM
- waiting for EIC PM to get back for next steps
- Proposal due date as soon as December 2022
UPDATES
- Status update given on barrel EMCal activities at Detector-1 Calo WG meeting
- DESY beam test results interpretation
- Material used: PWO (20X0) and SciGlass (7X0)
- Note the different radiation lengths even though the lengths for both cases is 20cm long blocks
- For good shower absorption at least 15X0 is needed - for anything shorter there will be longitudinal shower leakage, which is reflected in the energy deposition spectra (e.g., broad, tails) and therefore the resolution
- The results shown in the EEEMCAL group so far are amplitude spectra - where the SciGlass ones are broader than those for PWO
- This is consistent with what one would expect based on the material radiation length
- To really understand the resolution one needs to extract the resolution from the data AND compare to a simulation of blocks with the SAME radiation length (see literature from PANDA where this has been done for 5-10 cm long PWO blocks). This was done for the prototype tests at JLab where data and GEANT4 simulation are in agreement
SIMULATIONS
- Ongoing efforts in the EEEMCAL group
- Both Fun4All and DD4HEP - started for immediate questions with existing framework (Fun4All) and will complete these there; more recent efforts started in DD4HEP
- Detector-1 moving towards DD4HEP - plan to adopt this as well moving forward
- For the Fun4All implementation it would be good to get from the CAD model:
- Textfile with the coordinates of all eight corners of each tower. It would also be useful if you could directly add some kind of numbering for each tower, so that they have a unique eta and phi ID (preferably starting with etaID=0 at the outer edge in the electron going direction).
- For an investigation of the impact of having 2cm x 2cm blocks in the center of the detector you would like the same as in (1), but with the family 1+2 blocks replaced with 2cm x 2cm (front face) blocks
- Dedicated meeting every two weeks coordinated by Carlos - next meeting on Monday 1 August at 8am ET
- many opportunities to contribute
- Review of the standalone simulations by Petr
- shows the impact of longitudinal shower leakage
- good agreement with data from test beam for 7X0 blocks
- Action: include projected data for blocks with 3cm x 3cm (4cm x 4cm) and larger than 3x3 array (see Petr's presentations from 2021)
DETECTOR-1 MEETINGS
- Ongoing efforts on barrel EMCal technology
- Forward/backward technologies confirmed
PROTOTYPE EFFORTS
- Two tests being prepared for JLab (Fall 2022)
- SciGlass 40cm
- SiPM with different pixel sizes from 10 - 50 um
- Different prototypes: 1) SciGlass and variable matrix SiPM (Vladimir), 2) PWO with 10um SiPM (Crytur)
- Update from Prototype 1
- hardware ready for small pixel pitch matrices
- waiting for opportunity to take data - anticipated early Fall
- Update from Prototype 2
- testing pulse response timing and temperature stability
- planning 1-channel pre-test at JLab August 29 - Sepember 2
- expect beam test of full prototype to take place in October 2022
- Opportunities for students to analyze data and/or participate in these or future prototype tests
NEXT MEETING: FRIDAY AUGUST 26TH at 8AM ET
