DESY BEAM TEST LOGISTICS

  • Test beam slot submitted on 4/12/24
  • Expect decision in early May
  • initial beam schedule selections/discussions usually end of April
  • once schedule is made it has to be approved by the directorate before being made public

DESY BEAMTEST GOALS AND PREPARATIONS

  • The main goals of a test at DESY would be investigations of stability, linearity, and power deposition for the two approaches (discrete and ASICS) and have the following specific goals:
  1. test if ASIC gives comparable result with fADC
  2. what is the minimum energy that can be detected with both sets of electronics
  3. A third goal would be to test the impact of mechanical structure on the detector performance.
  • We would assume that we use the 5x5 prototype from MIT and the 5x5 IJCLab-Orsay 5x5 prototype.
  • the Orsay prototype includes the internal carbon structure that is planned for the EEEMCAL
  • Either of these two prototypes could accommodate the discrete readout - the details how to achieve that have to be worked out
  • Orsay prototype uses CAEN and Samtech connectors, similar to what was used for the NPS; also has 256 channels with fADC (could bring two modules)
  • Action item: Justin organize a meeting with Fernando, Gerard, interested members from the EEEMCAL team; also consider inviting Marco Battaglieri and team (potential interest in SRO)
  • Note that the lowest beam energy at DESY has been 500 MeV - to get lower need to discuss with the management
  • Action item: check with DESY what is possible in principle at low end
  • Also note that the AANL team is planning a test at 50-70 MeV - complementary to the DESY tests. How do the timelines compare?
  • Action item: further develop the beam test preparations list
  • radiator testing and selection
  • SiPM selection, procurement of SiPMs, as needed
  • Complete PCB development
  • Test PCB
  • Material survey
  • Simulations
  • etc.
  • Action item: develop a run plan
  • Note that data taking at DESY would include an amplitude matching, e.g., center the beam on each of the crystals and match the gain/amplitude
  • Items in the run plan should be ordered by priority

IRRADIATION SIPMs

  • The test planned at the hadron facility with Giessen U. had to be postponed - there were problems with the accelerator that prevented the Giessen team to carry out the irradiation tests
  • A test with UCR is currently planned for May 14-15
  • Action item: send the SiPMs from Giessen U. to Miguel et al.

PROJECT UPDATES

  • Anticipated dates for CD2 are fall 2025 with CD3 following the year after

GEOMETRY DATABASE UPDATES

  • Received request to change beampipe "diameter"
  • Comparing the present EEEMCAL design numbers to these request values - action: check for both, the regular and shifted geometries

NEXT MEETING: FRIDAY 3 MAY AT 8AM ET
