OVERALL UPDATES
- Started a document on EEEMCAL that may serve as pre-briefing material for final design review and/or publication
- No news on NSF pre-proposal (see notes below)
- Notes from DSC-ePIC meeting on 2/7 posted in Wiki
BEAM TEST DESY - FEBRUARY
- Things going smoothly. A few downtimes but nothing major
- Energy resolution with small collimator (2mm x 2mm) is much smaller than the quoted in the paper, regardless of beam energy
- the number of 150 MeV form the paper was done in T21 test area and with a 18mm x 18mm collimator
- ASIC readout
- 400 SiPMs (16 per channel) - have tested all of them and all are working
- Found some dead channels in the ASICS - re-arranged elements so that all but one SiPM have a working ASIC channel
- Have seen signals and have been running calibrations
- Started with independent (read out each channel individually) readout and have been doing energy (1-5 GeV, no rate at 6 GeV) and position scans (around central crystal) across the calorimeter
- Central crystal with one SiPM gets resolution of ~10% at 1 GeV
- Took data to gain match each of the channels so that can gain match and then
- Can output only one crystal and plugged that into MIT readout with digitizer (not ASIC) - get same resolution as with the ASIC readout
- Finished data taking on the individual SiPM with ASIC readout
- Two more test: 1) 4x4 grouped SiPM, 2) FPGA
- gain test SiPMs individually
- figure out which events are read out in SRO
- Discrete readout
- initial test with single crystal and PMT in beam
- discrete readout boards inserted into Orsay prototype and started tests - saw data on all channels
- Planning to follow run plan for the next few days
BEAM TEST DESY - MARCH
- Start is 24 March
- Actions for preparation:
- Send email to Douglas (hasell@mit.edu) if planning to participate
- Note: if at DESY for the first time need to complete a safety lecture - only offered on Mondays at 1pm local time
- Complete DESY registration form, which will be sent after Douglas registered participants in the system
- Make DESY hostel reservations
- Plan to have beam test preparation meetings in the next few weeks
NSF PROPOSAL
- Due date is still listed as 19 March
- Might be good to reach out to SPOs to say that planning to submit
- Plan to start edits to Overleaf proposal document in the next few weeks
- edit Broader Impacts section and edit language in entire proposal
- edit sections pertaining to timelines etc. that may have changed since the last submission
NEXT MEETING: FRIDAY 21 MARCH AT 8:00AM ET (THERE WILL BE SUBGROUP MEETING ON BEAM TEST AND PROPOSAL - SEE EMAIL)
