DISCUSSION NSF MSRI PREPROPOSAL
- No news on the pre-proposal
- Full proposal submission deadline is now 5 June 2025 (https://www.nsf.gov/funding/opportunities/mid-scale-ri-1-mid-scale-research-infrastructure-1)
- We will start working on updating the proposal document and supplementary information now and plan to have the documents ready in early May
- Actions
- Overleaf link to the proposal has been created by Renee. The link was circulated on Sept 6, 2024.
- Get updated quotes for all items (All)
- Justin will make a new google drive for collecting documents for the proposal submission
- For updating budgets - in general there should not be major changes from the pre-proposal - review the master spreadsheet, but do not edit it
- If only small changes to the budget, e.g., salary/wage figures, complete the blank budget spreadsheet and send it to Ioana and Tanja
- If there are changes to the efforts, e.g., when a person works on what task etc., contact Ioana and Tanja
- Project Execution Plan - need to update the budget and possibly other information
- Narrative - need to make consistent with pre-proposal and cross check with any other comments received last time.
DISCUSSION PWO CRYSTALS AND TESTING
- The CD3A scope includes 1069 crystals
- The first articles (110 crystals) have been shipped and are en route to JLab - acceptance tests will be done there
- After acceptance of the first articles regular monthly shipments of at least 70 crystals/month will commence
- Discussion about crystal storage
- NPS cleanroom capacity: currently can store an additional ~600 crystals
- There may be additional storage space at JLab - need to investigate
- Crystal test benches
- UKY and JMU have been setting up test benches for crystal tests. Both have one PWO crystal that can be used for cross checking.
- Expect to be ready to exercise crystal test procedures soon
- Actions
- Investigate crystal storage space at JLab
- Send one crystal each to Larry and Justin for SiPM board tests
BEAM TESTS AT DESY
- March beam test will commence on 3/24. Goals are:
- Run Crytur system
- Measure energy resolution with MIT 5x5 prototype with SiPM readout
- Direct comparison of two channels with SiPM
- Possibly insert a glass block in the central position
- Analysis of the data from February
- HCROC data are being analyzed at Orsay including pedestal and width fluctuations and noisy channels. Expect initial results to the expert group in ~3 weeks
- discrete data are being analyzed at OU. Planning to present status early next week and implement any feedback.
FINAL DESIGN REVIEW PLANNING
- Presently planned for May 2025
- The main item to be reviewed is the mechanical design - 90% level
- Requires information from the beam test on the readout chains. If decision on the readout chain is made in ~2 weeks then still requires implementation into the mechanical model. May 2025 may still be possible, but it is very tight.
NEXT MEETING: FRIDAY 4 APRIL AT 8:00AM ET
