MAGNET UPDATE
- Discussion about magnet design progress
- Bogdan's slides show a transverse field in the HMS snout area of about 200 Gauss. This is only an issue when the spectrometers are at small angles. Assuming 200 Gauss at the spectrometer and momenta of 3 GeV/c, this would produce a 1mm kick, which would require mitigation. However, it has to be verified where exactly the 200 Gauss field was calculated.
- Bogdan's slides show an initial study to adapt an "open" magnet design for transversely polarized target measurements. This option could provide a larger acceptance for the detector and could be of interest to experiments like TCS. The general idea is based on a design in Hall B, where a solenoid and compensating magnet are used.
- Action item: when can steel machining and coil procurement start
FRAME DESIGN
- Discussion about ongoing design work
- investigating details of light monitoring and curing system - IPNO has been carrying out crystal radiation hardness tests with a Co-60 source to define the specifics
- budget request has been submitted
- currently expect design to start in about two months
- working on aditional horizontal clearance with beam line
CRYSTALS AND PMTS
- Discussion about decisions on crystals and PMTs
- need to define how to make decision about vendor
- need to understand quality of crystals currently available from each vendor
- Action items:
- update NPS project timeline taking into account progress on frame and crystals and links between tasks
- compare SICCAS crystal measurement results from CUA with values for transmittance provided by company
- request a quote from SICCAS (and CRYTUR) for 1000 crystals and associated timeline to produce them
- ask Rainer/Valera for results from most recent batch of rectangular CRYTUR crystals
ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING:
- Magnet update (Bogdan)
- Crystals and PMTs (Carlos, Hamlet, TH)
