MAGNET UPDATE

  • Main coil procurement - in progress at CUA
  • Yoke/steel - searching for suitable vendor to cut the 22 tons of steel already available
  • initial quotes from local companies are very high - mainly due to labor hours
  • alternatives being explored include cutting of smaller pieces at ODU and expanding the search to non-local vendors. For the latter, transportation/loading may not be cost effective.
  • Bogdan is trying to get further feedback from groups that recently ordered magnets including more complicated ones than the NPS one
  • Corrector coil - initial quotes are in and seem reasonable
  • Discussion about path forward assuming that costs for steel cutting are as quoted

PMT HIGH VOLTAGE BASES

  • Work has started at OU including:
  • procurement of spare PMTs
  • Identification of vendors for boards
  • Connectors on signal and HV choices - depends on final design of calorimeter temperature-controlled frame and location of HV and signal patch panels. One option is individual cables, another multimode cables from outside calorimeter to power supplies etc.

PBWO4 CRYSTALS

  • Light yield systematic tests ongoing
  • Chemical analysis - methods, sampling techniques being developed in collaboration with the VSL at CUA
  • Setting up infrastructure in collaboration with VSL to grow crystals at CUA

NPS COLLABORATION MEETING:

  • Discussion of agenda
  • in preparation for the meeting, think about polarized target and how a bigger figure of merit benefits experiments deuteron photodisintegration
