BEAM TESTS DESY

  • Tested 5x5 PWO calorimeter with different readout systems and trigger/triggerless configurations
  • aim was to read out two systems at the same time (CAEN+FADC250)
  • Identified issues that need to be addressed going forward
  • huge changes in gain and pedestals - issue with the JLab FADC250 (induced level shifts on splitter) identified and solution awas to disconnect that system and only read out the CAEN system. Next time aim to have a better solution for the FADC250 system.
  • Position scans at different energies from 2 GeV up to 5 GeV
  • Next test run planned for May 2-15, 2022
  • updated FADC250
  • SciGlass scans
  • Temperature scans

Q&A

  • Gain changes - how observed
  • beam collimated to 2mmx2mm - can be positioned at any crystal. Observed a large peak and some runs saw shifted peak and/or two peaks - pedestal also shifted
  • Any information on background condition? Anode current?
  • PMTs drew 300uA
  • How precise is energy known? - what is the
  • 10% over 10cm image on collimator (using 2mm collimator should be at ~2% energy spread)
  • Dividers
used custom made
  • Any tests with pions?
  • only e+/e-
  • Energy resolution and temperature scan
  • Energy resolution expected best at -25degC
  • No magnetic shielding around PMTs
  • not needed for experiments envisioned

JLAB

  • One 40cm SciGlass block being tested in beam
