MEETINGS RECAP

  • ECCE
  • getting ready to start studies of detector configurations and physics case studies
  • Calorimeter conveners: Friederike Bock (ORNL), Yongsun Kim (Seoong U.)
  • EIC@IP6 calorimeter conveners announced
  • Vladimir Berdnikov (CUA), Paul Reimer (ANL), Oleg Tsai (UCLA)

SIMULATIONS

  • Simulation frameworks Fun4All and Escalate have homogeneous electron-endcap calorimeters and similar clustering and reconstruction
  • Presentation by Artur Hoghmrtsyan on standalone simulations to investigate reflector, gaps between crystals, etc.
  • Crystal wrapping used in previous experiments and/or beam tests
  • NPS: 250um ESR+Tedlar between crystals
  • DESY: 1mm, Tyvek
  • Discussion about beam test programs
  • JLab Hall D to begin end of August 2021
  • Period 1 (~8 weeks):
  • mRICH + GEMTRD/MPGD
  • EEEMCal1 + GEMTRD/MPGD
  • OTRFT + GEMTRD/MPGD
  • Period 2 (~7.5 weeks):
  • OTRFT + GEMTRD/MPGD
  • EEEMCal2 (+ GEMTRD/MPGD pending further discussions)
  • EEEMCal3/TPEX 5x5
  • DESY to begin end of August 2021
  • Action items:
  • Circulate Enhanced Specular Reflector (ESR) information: link
  • Investigation of air gap
  • Circulate information about beam tests: link

READOUT (Irina, Olivier, Bruno)

  • Presentation by Crytur-USA on Scintillation Detectors
  • Discussion
  • Dynamic range for experiments
  • want to detect from MeV range to GeV range
  • Number of pixels and area coverage
  • In general need: small pixels and large size SiPM
  • can do small pizel (10um), but the devices are then very small
  • Array of photodiodes in Geiger mode: saturation, recovery time - requires several thousand of pixels
  • Large area SiPM needed: 2cm x 2cm area coverage
  • How to deal with noise
  • Previously used: Hamamatsu: S13360-6025PE (6075PE)
  • Temperature stability
  • temperature as low as possible to reduce noise
  • can design a compensation scheme to keep temperature stable
  • need to identify sources of temperature variation - many compensation options possibly available
  • Arrays of SiPMs
  • balance important so one does not lose resolution
  • Action items:
  • circulate list of specifications: neutron specifications, number of pixels, surface size and coverage: link
