PARTICIPANTS: Sasha, Renee, Carlos, Richard, Tanja, Larry, Hamlet, Vardan, Yeran, Irina, Gabriel, Douglas, Rosi, Taya, Julie,

SCIENCE CASE DISCUSSION

  • Overview of intro and DVCS paragraphs
  • consider including the history of the EIC/EEEMCAL
  • international community has been working on dectector - committee reviews have taken place
  • EEEMCAL is not a new device, but has been reviewed several times (NAS, YR, White Paper, etc.)
  • convince expert that there is very strong community support for EEEMCAL and science case
  • Actions:
  • Ask NSF for a strategy meeting - preferably in the next three weeks (weeks of Oct. 3, 10, or 17)
  • Continue writing on science case, e.g., Renee will take a first stab at refining intro and adding inclusive paragraphs

BROADER IMPACTS FOR NSF

  • Review document of broader impacts for NSF proposals
  • for the EEEMCAL pre-proposal that is reviewed NSF wide the global points mentioned seem most important
  • Also important is training in project management - different from regular research proposals. Possible approach:
  • (not necessarily in Broader Impacts) describe experience in projects in collaboration across labs/universities
  • (not necessarily in Broader Impacts)describe EIC connection - EEEMCAL is included in the EIC WBS structure
  • In Broader Impacts describe the plans of transferring knowledge to early career scientists

PROTOTYPE TESTS

  • JLab tests: preparations ongoing for 40cm SciGlass tests in 3x3 array
  • Modules have been prepared and are being tested
  • expect installation in the next week or so depending on beam and access schedule at JLab
  • Order of tests anticipated
  • SciGlass 40cm in 3x3 array (October/November data taking)
  • PWO with SiPM (December) - Crytur preparing prototype with updated electronics
  • SciGlass 40cm with SiPM in 5x5 array (early 2023)

EIC PROJECT UPDATES

  • Review of subsystem ongoing - EM calos might be next, sometime in November
  • all EMCals
  • photosensors and electronics

SIMULATIONS

  • Geometries in good shape for the EPIC simulation campaign
  • Pu Kai - backward EMCal
  • Dmitry - barrel SciGlass EMCal
  • Reconstruction etc. still being developed, but will have hits from the first campaign

CRYTUR CRYSTAL ORDERS

  • need 20-30 crystals/month to keep the production going through 2023
  • so far have orders until April 2023, then capacity empty
  • PANDA 50 crystals
  • Action: check status of the procurement from JLab

NEXT MEETING: FRIDAY 21 OCTOBER AT 8:00AM ET
