SUMMARY OF CRYSTAL IRRADIATION AND PROTOTYPE STUDIES (OCTOBER 2014)

  • A report edited by Hamlet's group and TH has been posted on the Wiki for review

LONG-TERM EFFORTS FOR IRRADIATION STUDIES

  • NPS PROTOTYPE IN HALL A
  • The prototype has been installed on a movable stand at beam height at an angle of 12 degrees and 10 m from the target
  • Seven of the nine channels are working, which is sufficient for the planned studies
  • Accuracy of the study depends on the monitoring system and is currently ~20%. It could be significantly improved by replacing the current splitter with silicone fiber. There may be some fibers available at JLab - Alex will check.
  • CRYSTAL IRRADIATION AT IDAHO
  • Carlos checked availability for beam. The best option would be 1-2 days preferably Mon/Fri during the week of 16 February 2015.
  • Decision is made to go ahead with this booking. The next steps will include planning the details of the tests and who will go to carry them out. Stands for the crystals should be available in Idaho.

COLLABORATION MEETING: 19 NOVEMBER AT JLAB

  • Discussion of draft agenda and how to handle remote presentations
  • Alex will check with the computer center about options
  • Pawel will help Jakub with learning about the conferencing system
  • Discussion of NPS science slides
  • The goal is to have a short presentation of the project and the science goals to present
  • An initial draft has been posted. Comments/edits/additional input would be great

VERTICAL CHICANE IN HALL C BEAMLINE FOR POLARIZED WACS

  • Pure photon beam has advantages for WACS measurements and could open additional new opportunities
  • Vertical chicane already exists in HC - used to lift the electron beam by ~2.2cm to match the height of the pivot
  • The FZ magnet could be used to bend electrons to a local dump.
  • GEANT4 simulations have been carried out to identify the best options also keeping in mind scenarios that would work for multiple experiments. The options are detailed on page 7 in the slides.
  • Option 1 is sufficient for WACS and does not require major modifications
  • Option 2 requires building a new vertical chicane to correct the 2.2 cm vertical offset. Would work for WACS and TCS experiments. Space for a tagger would be limited.
  • Option 3 ignores the 2.2 cm vertical offset. Would work for any polarized target experiment and may be the best option for multiple experiments. Enough space for a tagger.
  • Discussion about total rate expected and tagging. A rough estimation of the total rate could be made for the upcoming collaboration meeting

NPS FUNDING

  • MRI submission deadline is 22 January 2015
  • Internal competitions are starting in early November.

ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING:

  • Updates on long-term efforts for irradiation studies, e.g., HA possibilities and Idaho scheduling and plan for measurements
  • Polarized WACS
  • Other...
