DISCUSSION TCS PAC46 DRAFT

  • Overall looks good, physics motivation good, but work remains to be done to include, e.g.:
  • Executive summary (1-4 pages) with plot(s) that show the power of the measurement - Fig. 12 and Fig. 38 seem best
  • Strengthen motivation for universality and quantify
  • check and fix inconsistencies of Fig. 34ff, e.g. t<0.2 not possible, correct calculation of luminosity, NPS description update
  • update projections with experimental acceptance, CPS, target, etc.
  • Discussion about measurement of observables with sufficient precision to show consistent framework exists vs. measuring directly universality
  • Technical questions
  • Design of proton recoil detector
  • Final trigger rates - high rates may be addressed with adjusting segmentation
  • Discussion about including neutron data
  • targets in principle feasible
  • dealing with exclusivity more difficult
  • Discussion and recommendations for proceeding with full proposal vs. LOI at PAC46
  • Physics case nice, good precision experiment, however, much work still to be done in limited time
  • An LOI could be very strong, requires updates, but not as much as full proposal would
  • Likely outcomes for full proposal limited to: conditional approval pending CPS review, deferral

NPS SUBSYSTEMS

  • HV bases (update from Julie)
  • first HV boards with connectors (instead of cables off the board) were received: Pic1, PIC2
  • Chris Stanislav tested four of them and found them to be passing specs
  • Remaining 1170 ones will be ordered shortly

  • Magnet assembly schedule - to be discussed in next meeting

  • Update on crystals in next meeting

  • Update on 10x10 prototype (ComCal) design/assembly postponed to next meeting

NEXT MEETING: THURSDAY 31 MAY AT 9:00 AM (EDT)
