DISCUSSION TOPICS

  • Engineering updates
  • TCS updates
  • KPT Photon Source
  • Other

PARTICIPANTS: Amy Comer, Brannon Semp, Hamlet Mkrtchyan, Hovanes Egiyan, Igor Strakosvky, Steven Lassiter, Vardan Tadevosyan, Vitaly Baturin, David Hamilton, Tanja Horn, Rolf Ent, Bogdan Wojtsekhowski, Marie Boer,

MECHANICAL UPDATE

  • Prototype - parts are being machined
  • Next: cutting of the slots and radiation piece
  • Prototype base cooling element redesigned
  • CPS Magnet Coils - 3D model by Bert Metzger (see JT file)
  • FLUENT modeling
  • difficulties with current licensing configuration as more demand than licensing
  • Action item: ask for another license
  • Shielding material
  • 280 W blocks of 440 blocks delivered from Elmet
  • Action items:
  • finish magnet design and drawings for procurement - still planned for this year
  • re-design for single-wound coil
  • check tolerances etc.
  • prototype testing
  • not needed for coils, yoke etc.
  • shielding layout in CAD
  • external W shielding in boxes for handling
  • raster layout
  • radiator design
  • beamlines with Be windows
  • N2 purge within magnet
  • absorber final design
  • LCW cooling of absorber - must be closed system
  • cannot exceept 1 kW/month running
  • Action item: running time for CPS?

FLUENT UPDATE

  • Absorber temperature profile
  • presented has cooling applied at bottom - see as a result differences between up/down
  • cooling still needs to be implemented
  • worked through entire problem and obtained solution - smooth distributions from model suggesting that all works as expected

TUNGSTEN MATERIAL

  • Magnetization of tungsten shielding seems significant --> magnetic field --> force, which would be of concern for magnet coils
  • some amount of Ni is ok, but when add additional iron then get the magnetization
  • field in standard iron is 2T, much lower
  • concern mainly because in Hall C have target close by
  • with three times as many shielding blocks find a force of 400kg - order of magnitude too much for new magnet coil
  • Implication to other tungsten? - need to check components carefully

HALLD UPDATE - PHOTON BEAM ALIGNMENT FOR KAON PRODUCTION TARGET

  • Photon source model from CPS/HC setup
  • Simulations suggest that need a compensation magnet (0.5m, 0.25T) to address fringe fields of main magnet - with this the photons are in center of Be converter
  • No need to map the fringe fields
  • Energy deposition at two locations of the converter
  • Magnetic field map to z<-40cm - would be outside main magnetic field
  • For Hall C it doesn't matter - go through field, e.g., dynamical polarized target (few T field) - result is a deflection and standard approach is to place corrector magnet to compensate for it

TCS UPDATE

  • Overview of the dedicated TCS meeting on 3/24
  • Plan is to submit the updated proposal at the upcoming PAC
  • Action items:
  • Marie will send reminder and zoom link for the next dedicated TCS meeting - weekly meetings are foreseen

NEXT CPS MEETING: FRIDAY APRIL 22ND AT 8:00AM ET
