DISCUSSION POINTS

  • Simulations conclusions, updates, and next phase
  • Shielding and magnet model CAD (Josh)
  • NPS+CPS experiments
  • Other

PARTICIPANTS: Hamlet Mkrtchyan, Igor, Mike Fowler, Sean Dobbs, Tanja Horn, Paulo Medeiros, Mike CAD, Steven Lassiter, Vardan Tadevosyan, Vladimir Berdnikov, Marie Boer, Rolf Ent, Gabriel Niculescu, Dustin Keller, Donal Day, A Comer

SUMMARY NOTES

RADIATION SIMULATIONS UPDATE (Gabriel)

  • Conclusion: we are "there" - Picked configuration mk_V
  • No need for pink plastic in front - keep lead there
  • Air in exit channel - important to pump, since would give radiological gases
  • Need gate valve and window to separate scattering chamber from beam line (simulation has entrance window)

CONCLUSIONS: BRIDGING SIMULATION AND MECHANICAL DESIGN (Rolf, Josh, Tanja)

SUMMARY OF CONCLUSIONS AND SHIELDING SKETCHES

  • Listing of radiation and material for mk_V
  • Seems to suggest ~50 ton device
  • Sketches of shielding configuration: side view, front view (how many bricks there are and how to stack them) - start at z=+5cm and estimate total height (155cm), width (180cm) and length (~200cm)
  • Hall D KLong possible configuration
  • Position magnet with respect to beam - narrow beam pipe hole (3mm), so need very accurate positioning
  • Perhaps change beam pipe to have tolerance on all sides
  • Mainly need good beam position - need to be able to align to better than 1mm

INITIAL CAD MODEL OF MAGNET AND SHIELDING

  • Magnet pole piece is angled to increase the field
  • Note: no field clamp needed for CPS magnet
  • Shielding model is still simplified - see action items below
  • Next steps:
  • Need to also take into account the assembly - which piece goes in first, plus:
  • cooling, forces, services to magnet etc.
  • outer containment for tungsten and poly - container to hold tungsten (stainless steel typically since it is heavy)
  • Division of W-Cu insert should minimize heat transfer between segments
  • Discussion of best way to interface with engineering/design team
  • Autodesk Inventor - should be able to transfer files
  • Action Items - to address before turning over to engineering/design team
  • Cu-W inserts
  • Form of W blocks - get information from vendor
  • Container for W blocks

CPS IN HALL C MODEL PRESENTATION (Mike)

  • Discussion of the Hall C model including the CPS
  • There are interferences - need to further discuss
  • Action item: make ppt slides with screen shots - DONE (see link under Discussion items)

NPS+CPS EXPERIMENTS (Marie, Dustin, Vardan)

  • Ongoing simulation efforts
  • Background studies with pi+/pi- generator
  • Plan to run several settings to optimize signal/background

NEXT MEETING: FRIDAY 29 MAY AT 11:00AM (ET)
