Minutes

Present: Igor, Vitaly, Hovanes, Richard, Pavel, Moskov, Edy, Lubomir, Eugene, Mikhail, Beni, Sashi, Marshall, Jim, Sean

  • Moskov will be attending the BTeam meetings as a nuclear physicist. He contacted Doug Higinbotham about this.
  • Edy said that the meetings are held bi-weekly on Tuesdays at 2pm. Once we get closer to running, the meetings will be on a weekly basis. Yves Roblin is organizing these meetings. He is the right person to contact regarding these meetings.

  • Permanent magnets, 10 of them on each side, need to be mounted after FCAL as upstream as possible to deflect charged particles in the vertical direction. They can be even installed around the beam pipe.
  • Beni reminded us that the room of Hall D is not well shielded and the radiation outside of the hall will need to be evaluated. Pavel agreed.
  • The hypernuclear station is 2mx2m in size. It will be installed after the FCAL platform and will be movable.
  • The hypernuclear station consists of two parts: Emulsion substation and germanium substation (plus a Dewar).
  • Emulsion station contained 100 layers. They will not be changed during the run. The station is about 1mx1m in size.
  • Germanium station is 1mx1m with five germanium modules. One modules is in the beamline, the four other are around the beam line.
  • Plastic scintillator cylinder will be around the module that is in the beam to tag charged particles.
  • Eugene stated that this parasitic experiment has almost zero priority, Hall D may not have resource for this.
  • Mikhail stated that York university will take care of the Germanium station, but needs help to be able to comply with JLAB regulations. Emulsions only require a table.
  • Pavel asked about if a large beam spot size will be a problem. Mikhail stated that the FCAL/ECAL will be shielding the beam, the hole in the ECAL is 4cmx4cm.

  • Richard did not have time to work on the GEANT4 simulations of detector rates as last week he was also working on GlueX beamline related simulations. He will try to have a presentation next week.
  • Richard has an estimate for KLF active collimator construction. The estimated cost to build it is $8000. Eugene said that the capital funding that we use to fund such items are frozen until February.

  • Next meeting will be on October 31
