Minutes

Present: Tim, Hovanes, Eugene, Vitaly, Mikhail, Igor, Moskov, Richard, Edy, Alex, Stuart, Sean, Marshall



  • Tim reported that the engineering group is making progress on CPS and KPT design. They plan to test the brazing scheme for the CPS absorber cooling tubes. The details of the removable core of the CPS are being worked out.
  • Engineers are considering air casters for moving CPS in the tagger hall.
  • CPS magnet design is being finalized. The plan is to place a PR in the beginning of July.
  • Tim is putting together a schedule for fabrication and installations based on the currently available information.
  • Moskov asked if Tim would be able to demonstrate readiness to start installation in the spring or summer of 2025 to run starting in the summer of 2026. Tim will work on it.
  • Edy asked for the position of the CPS radiator. Tim will send Edy the z-position of the radiator based on the current design.




  • Richard gave an update on the active collimator design and fabrication, see his slides. He plans to complete the design and assembly by the end of 2024. He will have more firm plans about the funding once he gets a better estimate of the AC related cost.




  • Tim reported that we will need some space for KLF components and we can used space in ESB. In addition, we probably will need offsite storage for CPS and KPT related equipment.




  • Mikhail would like to have space for testing the KFM equipment when they arrive. We would need to be able to store radioactive source in the are where scintillator paddles will be tested. The are where the tracker will be testes does not need a radioactive source as they can use cosmics, but they would need to have a gas pad nearby. No components need clean rooms.
  • Moskov asked about the readiness of KFM installation by the summer of 2025. At this time Mikhail was not able to make a firm statement about it as the tracker readout situation was not clear. But he said that KFM would work even without the tracker.
  • Tim pointed out that currently the KFM installations are planned at the very end. Mikhail thinks that after the KFM mounting has been installed by Hall D personnel, York group can take care of the detector installation by themselves.




  • Moskov is in contact with the injector group regarding the beam tests related to 64/128ns beam structure. There are beam tests planned for May 8th. After those tests, Moskov will talk to Riad and Joe and let Hovanes know when we can have a meeting regarding a write up for NPD as requested by bullet #4 of ERR-1. Hovanes will schedule a dedicated meeting to discuss the response that will include people from KLF, Hall D, and injector.
