The meeting was to talk about Oil carry over through the 4th oil coalescer
We have been tracking the oil carryover for CHL C9, HDR C1, and HDR C3. All three compressors seem to have relatively close outlet pressures and temperatures. All the coalescer valves have been opened 1/4 turn more than needed to be to keep up with the oil draining, except for the manual valve on coalescer C4 on each machine. Oil can be seen in the sight glass on CHL9 within a couple of hours. For HDR C1 and C3, the oil do not show up in the oil sight glass for ~5-7 days. Mat Wright believes that the oil coalescers work better on the HDR compressors.
- Noted issues:
- 1. Coalescer 1 seems to have a drain leaking valve. Oil does not collect in that coalescer.
- 2. The oil seems to be "foamy". There is a theory that there was mineral oil left in the compressors when the LBx400 was added that causes the oil to be foamy.
- 3. The coalescers sub system can not be removed without cutting the tubing that returns oil back to the compressor.
- 4. Oil does not seem to be "seen" by the oil sensors that are used to open the solenoid valves. We do not use the solenoid valves.
- 5.
- Action Items:
- 1. Quantify the oil carryover? (Alicia)
- 2. What are the options for the oil sensors and would using a different oil sensor work better? (Nate)
- 3. Flush the oil. (Mat)
- 4. Check the piping for oil after the final oil coalescer with a swab. (Nate)
- 5. Check the orifice size on the compressor. (Alicia)
- 6. Pump Oil out of compressors C7 and C8. (Volunteer? Nate or Alicia?)
- 7. Add fitting to the tubing from the oil coalescer drain valves back to the compressor body. (Volunteer? Nate or Alicia?)
