Issue Statement

  • When T2 at ESR trips off, the turbine continues to spin much longer than expected. The is a concern that the turbine will be damaged if it does not stop spinning when the inlet valve is closed. On a few occasions, the turbine continued to spin (~500Hz) until the the plant was re-started.

Agenda and Notes

  1. What do we need to do to fix this problem.
  2. Is this really a problem (I think that this is a big problem)
  3. Why do we think this is a problem (Is bearing gas on during that time)
  4. Should we be doing something manually?
  5. Other questions that we need to make sure we have answered.

Action Items

  1. investigate bearing gas process at ESR
  2. Verify LVDT on turbine inlet valve
  3. Warm T2. Schedule. Dependent on transfer line.
  4. Check seating force of T2 inlet valve (require trip?) (verify proper operation)
  5. Can T2 be isolated to support troubleshooting without damaging turbine or stopping entire CBX?
  6. Develop plan to isolate CBX in the event T2 must be stopped, and/or CBX must be tripped.
  7. Verify that we have a spare.
  8. What is required to check seating force (operationally)?
  9. Create an alarm that will alert us when turbine inlet valves are closed and turbine speed is > 0.
  10. drink a beer
  11. Get the transfer line from CHL operational
  12. follow-up meeting ~1/20/2017.
  13. Contact Pete to begin information/data collection, vendors, contacts.
