PROTOTYPE TESTS PWO

PWO + SiPM (JLab)

  • measured energy resolution wth a 3x3 prototype with 9 crystals and Fernando designed SiPM 4x4 array based on GlueX barrel calorimeter (pitch is 10um, 3mm x 3mm)
  • gain adjusted by bias voltage
  • measured at one beam energy
  • measurement complete - analysis ongoing

PWO + SiPM (CRYTUR)

  • signal pre-amplifier attached - can better adjust dynamic range -- more flexibility
  • amplifier linearity is important - measurements done to confirm it
  • 9 crystals PWO with 4x4 SiPM array per crystal (pitch is 15um, 3mm x 3mm)
  • low power consumption - no cooling needed
  • mesaurements ongoing: better alignment of the prototype, switch ADC range to 1V, re-position the prototype to slightly different energy

Q&A

  • Any idea about noise? - not yet, need to know MeV equivalent in terms of pixels, need to know linearity
  • no cooling done
  • regression allows to do calibrations dynamically
  • BCAL SipM 80MHz noise on single pixel, this seems improved
  • Position scan done?
  • Uniformity of SiPM as function of position
  • edge effects since area covered is smaller than crystal surface
  • could scan across surface with layer to check the uniformity
  • larger array like 5x5 would be better since can reposition the shower
  • Plans for measuring dynamic range and linearity?
  • could use lasers or diodes
  • Sensitivity to temperature
  • clever design allows for cooling essentially by convection
  • Sensitivity to radiation
  • any tests that can be done to evaluate it?
  • Larger SiPM array - tests
  • test bench could be done
  • Timeline: September/October 2023

PROTOTYPE TESTS SCIGLASS 40cm

SciGlass 3x3 array with SiPM

  • pitch 25um, 3mmx3mm, Hamamatsu S13160-6025
  • readout designed by Fernando - also based on BCAL

Q&A

  • one channel does not work - known issue with channel #2
  • post slides
  • Add emission spectrum to the transmittance plot
  • Dynamic range requirement for barrel EMCal different from 4 GeV JLab beam test - need to take into account

SciGlass 5x5 array with SiPM (INFN)

  • pitch 50um, 6mmx6mm, Hamamatsu S14160-6050HS

DISCUSSION OF ACTIVITIES NEXT THREE MONTHS

  • Post as editable document
  • Add backend electronics work

NEXT MEETING 17 MARCH AT 8AM ET

  • Sooner if there is any change in status (new results, news on proposal)
