PLANNING TOWARDS SIPM SELECTION

  • Plan to irradiation test all SiPMs at UCR - all models except for 6010 (Hamamatsu confirmed that there is no difference between 3010 and 6010)
  • Justin and Gerard plan to be present at the test
  • Developed a plan for the irradiation of the SiPMs
  • Expect to be able to make a decision on which SiPM model after the irradiation test, but it will require additional studies as well
  • Criteria towards making the decision on the SiPM model
  • how much dark current
  • geometry
  • pixel size
  • lowest possible signal
  • linearity over dynamic range
  • Plan is to start setting up test benches
  • Lehigh U. (from scratch), OU (starting from NPS setup), ACU
  • ACU has been doing test bench tests (boards and SiPMs)
  • goal is to be ready for testing SiPMs for the beam test
  • Plan for parallelizing the selection of SiPM for October beam test and final SiPM to make sure that SiPMs are available given the potentially long lead time
  • determine the best candidate SiPM based on test bench data available now (time frame ~1 week)
  • use this best candidate SiPM and order the needed quantity of that model for the October beam test - estimated cost for SiPMs for the October beam test is ~$20k
  • continue test bench studies towards final candidate SiPM over the summer
  • decide on final SiPM at the end of the summer
  • Action items:
  • share the irradiation plan to the group
  • develop a procedure for making the decision on the SiPM final candidate
  • ask Hamamatsu for current lead time

PLANNING TOWARDS READOUT CHAIN SELECTION

  • Details will be discussed in the 9 May meeting

FUTURE PLANNING

  • Explore if we can have an update from the engineering team in the EEEMCAL meeting
  • Explore options for setting up PDE funds to keep things moving (Sasha)
  • Explore with DESY management what is possible in principle at low end, e.g., below 1 GeV (Douglas)
  • Explore setting up test benches for crystals
  • CUA/JLab has a setup that could be duplicated and used to gain experience
  • JMU and UKY need to setup a test bench

NEXT MEETING: FRIDAY 31 MAY AT 8AM ET
