JLAB USER MEETING

  • Received invitation for a talk on "NPS Update" - should include some science and experiment/installation status
  • Send email to hornt@cua.edu if interested in giving this talk in the the next few days

PARASITIC TEST

  • Riverside team plans a parasitic beam test with a hadronic calorimeter prototype. The prototype will be about 10x10 cm^2 transverse and 60 cm longitudinal, and consists of steel absorber blocks and scintillators readout with SiPMs. For the current test, we plan to place the prototype on the same table and stand used in the SOLID beamtest, at 82 degrees on the SHMS side (which, based on the kinematics of the NPS experiment, will not be in the way for either of the spectrometers). The setup and installation of this detector will only take a few hours, and our plan is to do

this during the last week of June. Our DAQ system is stand-alone, consisting of a laptop, a CAEN unit, and a remote-switched power supply. No high-voltage cable will be necessary since we are using SiPMs and not PMTs, just a standard extension cord.

  • Concerns: need for resources from Hall C, e.g., for shielding, moving detector, etc., since the NPS installation is already running on a tight schedule
  • Action item: reply to email with concerns discussed here and copy Mark

RUN PLAN DISCUSSION

  • Sweep magnet: D. Gaskell is working on the commissioning plan
  • Additional optics data
  • Check impact of sweeper magnet on HMS optics
  • Do sieve slit runs every time something changes, e.g., spectrometer magnet settings, sweeper magnet settings/configuration etc. If something changes then might need to do additional optics checks
  • Start with single foil and analyze, use multiple foils depending what one sees

  • PID checkout
  • Simona will write that part of the run plan

  • Monitor background in the calorimeter
  • Alexandre et al. working on that
  • PMT anode current tests: direct measurement with modified PMT in the area of the calorimeter and test impact
  • have spares: order 30 (Yeran)
  • spare dividers: 30 (Simona)
  • Action item: Hamlet prepare the setup
  • Discussion of Dave Mack's Cs irradiator tests and bases
  • Action item: post D. Mack's studies/findings in the NPS log book
  • Action item: investigate options for installing a radiation monitor in the calorimeter box
  • Target configuration
  • same as for the previous experiment - Dave Meekins prepared the list - Mark will post it in the Wiki
  • ask D. Meekins for survey

  • Calorimeter thresholds

NEXT MEETING: THURSDAY 6 JULY AT 9:00AM ET
