BACKGROUND SIMULATIONS

  • GEANT4 code was made available and can be downloaded along with README instructions here
  • Next steps include compiling the code on ifarm

PWO STATUS AND PLANS FOR FUTURE TESTING

  • Discussion of draft document prepared by Hamlet
  • Comments on the draft:
  • Add some information on how to compare the absorption coefficient used by Rainer to quantify radiation damage and the reduction in transmittance we use. This is important for comparison between irradiation studies with beam, e.g., Idaho, and with source at Giessen
  • Crystal test plan:
  • Clarify the strategy for testing crystal intrinsic radioactivity
  • Add that the important aspect of testing radiation hardness is uniform irradiation and that if one uses electron beams the requirement is that is the radiation is uniform
  • Stimulated crystal recovery: clarify that further tests will only be done after measurement method has been improved
  • Include an additional column that specifies what method will be used to obtain the values in the specifications table
  • Include a table that lists what we know about each crystal we already tested
  • Include information about where tests will be carried out and by which group(s)
  • Discussion about recent SIC visit by proponents of Hall D fCal upgrade and their discussion about production method and crystal quality tests for small and large batches. General agreement that crystal quality tests have to be done either way and having the completed table of our crystal specifications and tolerances will be helpful

READOUT

  • Success reading out the signal from a crystal using fADC
  • Future plans include:
  • Setup DVCS ARS to have 1 GHz sampling
  • Develop trigger clustering
  • Future DAQ development : developing high speed readout using VTP and cluster readout
  • Try high rate source run to generate pile-up events
  • Ongoing work assembling a dedicated small NPS fADC setup

FUNDING UPDATE

  • UK funding was awarded to Glasgow (D. Hamilton) for NPS equipment
  • Funding was awarded through the EIC General Detector R&D program to Orsay and CUA for procurement and testing of crystals from Crytur

ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING:
