DISCUSSION ITEMS
- Design models, stress/thermal calculations
- Engineering analysis and planning
- TCS updates
- Other
PARTICIPANTS: Amy Comer, Arshak Asaturyan, Bogdan Wojtsekhowski, Donal Day, Rolf Ent, Hamlet Mkrtchyan, Marie Boer, Petr Stepanov, Tanja Horn, Tristan Anderson, Vardan Tadevosyan
DESIGN/ENGINEERING (Steven, Amy, Bogdan)
- Copper absorber prototype modeling and FEA ongoing
- initial results of the simulations summarized in ppt slides - checking different scenarios
- some details need to be further investigated, but overall looks promising
- Quote requests for the copper absorber have been sent out to vendors
- Fluent model - good progress
- Bert has been working on updating the coils and magnets to the longer lengths
- Waiting for response from Elmet before making decision on how to proceed with Tungsten blocks
- bids are coming higher than estimated, so far no information received from Elmet
- Additional lead bricks will be available from MIT-Bates
- Gabriel will check optimal position of tungsten/lead with simulation
TRANSVERSE TARGET MAGNET UPDATE
- From Chris K.: Scientific Magnetics is making good progress
- coils are assembled and quench protection circuitry is in place - will be wired next week
- Vacuum chamber and cryocooler are assembled and have been successfully tested (no leaks, pulse tube reached <4K, etc.)
- Magnet will be installed in the cryostat in September
- A few cooldowns are expected to optimize placement of shims and to reach the required field uniformity
- Action: ask Chris K for update on shims, field uniformity, etc. sometime in September
TCS TRACKING UPDATE (Vardan)
- Investigated backtracking to account for deviations from linear regression
- Both methods of tracking give very similar results - backtracking works a little better, dependend on momentum
- Need to check on magnetic field sign outside target
NEXT MEETING: FRIDAY 24 SEPTEMBER AT 8AM ET
