ACTIONS

  • send DESY beam test personnel names do Douglas - if not yet done
  • once all DESY beam test personnel are known schedule a meeting to go over the logistics
  • Follow up with Alex Camsonne on the status of the fADC loan to OU (Carlos)
  • Finalize plans for the discrete/fADC readout, e.g., obtain hardware and test at OU, and ship any parts to DESY (Justin/Gerard/Julie/Paul)
  • Circulate TDR template (Renee)

BEAM TEST PREPARATIONS

  • Overview of the test goals and prototypes and anticipated personnel names participating in the beam test in October
  • for personnel: important to make arrangement for DESY hostel early. Cost difference is significant
  • for equipment shipping from USA: MIT will ship large crate at the end of September
  • Discussion of progress of the preparations towards the beam test
  • Radiator: setup of test benches proceeding well; JMU nearly done, UKY-CUA visit on 29 July and test crystal exchanged
  • Radiator for IJClab-Orsay prototype: 30 crystals shipped from CUA and received in early August at Orsay
  • SiPM readout chain: SiPMs for 25 channels IJCLab-Orsay and 2 channels MIT prototypes procured
  • Preparations for two-channnel SiPM readout with MIT prototype
  • PMTs are attached with optical grease and can be removed in situ
  • Plan is to attach the SiPMs to the crystals using the ComCal/NPS prototype method (see Josh's drawing): two plates (front/back of crystal) and copper strips running along the length of the crystal. SiPM attached with optical grease and force from the back applied using screws through the four edge holes at the outer SiPM board.
  • To work with the MIT readout the plan is to have a pre-amplifier circuit that will match the gain of the SiPM to that of the PMTs (which will be determined prior). Larry is reworking the pre-amplifier board to match with the mounting piece and assemble to SiPM and pre-amp boards to be sent to JLab first week of September. Test assembly will be done at JLab and then either materials sent to MIT for shipment or shipped separately
  • Cables: Larry will send SMA to BNC cables with the boards
  • Power needs at DESY can be fulfilled by the IJCLab-Orsay power supply
  • Preparations for the IJCLab-Orsay prototype
  • prototype has been assembled - using four PWO and 21 fake crystals
  • PCB designs: two are available parallel and independent (SiPM + daughter/mezzanine board, which can be used for the "discrete"/fADC readout)
  • New version of board design will be ready soon (separation of SiPM cathodes, new thermistor); additional optimizations may be done after the October prototype beam test
  • Idea of the daughter board design is to screw directly to the grid - important that the geometry of the daughter board matches the step file exactly
  • Preparations for the "discrete"/fADC readout for the IJCLab-Orsay prototype
  • Daughter board design must be completed. Board designs will be circulated next week - daughter board assembly (Larry/Gerard) will then commence
  • plan is to get two fADC (or equivalent) to OU and then test this readout there
  • status of obtaining fADC (or equivalent): Julie is in communication with Alex Camsonne and Mark Jones from JLab about getting either two fADC or V1725s
  • Discussion about using the digitizer from MIT for the discrete option: CAEN Digitizer is V1725S with sample rate and bits of 14 bit and 250 MHz; the QDC is a CAEN V792


OVERVIEW OF INITIAL DISCUSSIONS ABOUT SPACE/ASSEMBLY PLANNING

  • Overall there are two options: 1) on-site assembly at JLab, 2) wrapping and prep at JLab but final assembly at BNL
  • Discussion that overall there is a preference for option (1) as better access, ease of assembly, longer assembly time. Furthermore, JLab is partner in EIC so doing the assembly there could be good.
  • Post delivery checks in option 1 would include LED and/or cosmic tests, so need space, support, and equipment for that
  • in option 2, post assembly checks (equivalent to post delivery checks) are included in the assembly time. Note that 6 months assembly time is a lower limit and may well be 9-12 months
  • in option 1, will do checks prior to shipping and post deliver
  • Multiple/repeated assemblies checks are generally expected before final integration in the detector (after which access will be minimal or not possible)
  • The assembly hall at BNL may be available for EEEMCAL assembly for 9 months - need to find out if the available space matches the requirements
  • Note that discussions are still ongoing about planning/assembly - still in information collection stage
  • for estimates take into consideration the recent assembly of NPS and FCAL at JLab
  • For NPS only 750 out of 1080 channels were tested before integration


TDR DISCUSSION

  • Renee created the TDR template, but has yet to circulate the link
  • Keep figures as they are for this first draft - may update figures later
  • Deadline for the zeroth draft is end of September


EEEMCAL MSRI PROPOSAL

  • Met with NSF and discussed paths forward - one of these could be a an internal review in the physics division like the one done for MOLLER
  • NSF said that they would send instructions for the path forward after an internal meeting
