MEETING NOTES
TCS proposal (Marie, Vardan)
- proposal submitted - additional optimization planned before PAC presentation
- Action: circulate final version to collaboration
RADIATION SIMULATION AND HEAT TRANSPORT (Gabriel)
- initial heat transport from 2017 was all Cu inside
- for new WCu received CAD drawings from Josh - working on implementation into heat transport code, assumes direct contact between W and Cu
- initial comparison of Cu vs new WCu setup - same heat load, not much temp difference
- model assumes 1/4" (5mm) diameter, 15 holes per side
- Actions:
- next step: make slot rather than many holes for the WCu setup; Josh working on model
- specify water flow rate - currently assumed temperature of water: 30 degC, also specify speed of water so not too fast for destroying material and maintaining needed water temperature
CPS SHIELDING MODEL (Josh)
- CPS core: split v shimmed
- cooling channel being implemented - envision rectangular tube, maybe two, along the long axis
- Rectangular hole size vs. circular hole size
- rastering beam, size small compared to beam size, no need for circular - magnetic field orientation horizontal so only bend in vertical
- heat distribution should be uniform - if circular channel then some geometrical disadvantages
- Bonding between W and Cu - look for thermal bonding material that works at these temperatures
- CPS magnet side plates
- For sides can use stainless steel
- Make magnet dimensions a little bigger to match better to shielding configuration - cannot have too many odd sizes of lead bricks
- Recheck with SLAC on shipping of lead bricks
UPDATE FROM HALL D (Sean)
- Radiation simulations ongoing
PLACEMENT OF CPS IN HALL C - UPDATE
- Ease of installation in Hall C makes downstream the better option
- Hall C communicating with User Community to check on any negative impact on science of the downstream configuration
- Work ongoing with Scientific Magnetics for transverse target - quote expected soon, also investigating pumping station needs
NEXT MEETING: FRIDAY JULY 10th AT 11:00AM (ET)
