DISCUSSION MATERIAL

PARTICIPANTS: Steven Lassiter, Amy Comer, Bogdan Wojtsekhowski, Donal Day, Gabriel Niculescu, Hamlet Mkrtchyan, Hovanes Egiyan, Igor Strakovsky, Marie Boer, Pavel Degtiarenko, Rolf Ent, Dean Spiers, Vardan Tadevosyan, Tanja Horn, David Hamilton, Deb Biswas

ENGINEERING REPORT (Steven L)

  • Procurements: magnet yoke and poles, magnet coil, borated poly, copper absorber amterial, W-Cu blocks
  • missing supports
  • generally, below the originally estimated total
  • Cu absorber prototype testing
  • thermal model/cooling - modeling of multiple heat sources is challenging
  • Mechanical support and layout
  • Action item: need to know how much more shielding material
  • Lead procurement
  • 40 tons lead from SLAC - HallD
  • ~10tons lead from ANL - HallC/CPS

MECHANICAL SUPPORT AND LAYOUT DETAILS (Dean, Bert)

  • CPS model in Hall C overview - fit with infrastructure
  • Model of disassembly of Big Bite magnet - lifting it over the SHMS
  • detailed modeling of CPS in Hall C - cut view of all elements and view of the details of radiator assembly, stepper motor etc.
  • CPS storage locations in Hall C overview - fit in the Hall infrastructure
  • Views of the magnet and platform assembly,
  • Discussion of installation of load on specific sections
  • tungsten tunnel and assemblies - load management

CPS FLUKA MODEL UPDATE (Pavel)

  • Model update: new optimized layout for W and Pb bricks and the borated poly
  • Simulation results: improvements in the dose rate fields and the radiation budget
  • Plan is not to disassemble the CPS after operation - CPS will be stored in its assembled state
  • Experiment readiness review - aim for a year from now
  • Action item: optimize target materials and location of target
  • procedure more geared towards remote operations as possible
  • further quantify activation at target ~1 hours after stop for target maintenance
  • Ation item Donal: radiation maps from old experiments that we can compare to

NEXT MEETING: 2 June 2023 AT 9AM ET
