CRYSTAL SPECS FOR COMCAL AND FCAL-II IN HALL D (Liping)

  • Discussion about crystal specifications
  • Transmittance: less strict than NPS, for HyCal measured at JLab
  • Light Yield: less strict (>10) than NPS, not measured for HyCal (only spot checked decay times)
  • Dimensions: can use 20 cm length, for HyCal used 18cm for cost reasons
  • Radiation hardness: photons, expect 50-150 Gray (5-15 krad), for HyCal relied on measurements done at SICCAS
  • prototype was constructed for position/energy resolution measurements
  • Action Item:
  • Add ComCal/FCAL-II info into NPS specs table: Updated crystal specifications table
  • Select crystals to go to Hall D
  • SICCAS 2017 order prorate, some additional discussion with SICCAS about quality control

NPS CRYSTAL PROTOTYPE (Vladimir)

  • Assembled and installed the 3x3 prototype in Hall D - waiting for beam
  • Low current running in Hall D: typically have 2 runs (~6 hrs) with total absorption counter, prototype can also be used as counter
  • Number of additional channels that can be easily absorbed: 5x5 though up to 10x10 may be possible
  • Hall D has a spare chiller that could be used for temperature control
  • Action Items:
  • Check with engineer if mechanically possible to install a 10x10 prototype (i.e. use COMCAL as prototype) - Alex
  • How long does it take to construct the frame? - Alex
  • Preparations for assembling COMCAL during summer

SUBSYSTEM UPDATES

  • Crystal procurement preparations: got ok to proceed with Crytur procurement, plan is to purchase 450 crystals total
  • Action Item: check with Crytur/PANDA on crystal procurement plans
  • Frame/design: module final design will be available from IPN later in the year

NEXT MEETING: THURSDAY, 22 March at 9:00 AM (EDT)
