REVIEW GOALS 2022 - from January 2022 Meson SF meeting Link

  • Overarching thought: emphasis on how QCD phenomenology and modeling, QCD continuum, LQCD and data all can work together to solve questions on meson structure
  • Theory: short presentation on what measurements or kinematic regions of a measurement would be most valuable
  • so far have covered the topics:
  • Impact of lattice on global fitting (Patrick)
  • Pion TMD, e.g., using low energy DY, can these low PT have impact on collinear pion PDF too, EIC - pT dependence of pion and/or kaon further discussions (Tobias)
  • Pion GPD (Cedric and collaborators)
  • not yet covered
  • Kaon structure functions and form factor
  • Statistical models for pion structure functions
  • Mass sum rule of the pion
  • Challenges of meson physics from lattice point of view
  • Experimental activities
  • ongoing
  • Kaon Form Factor at EIC - feasibility studies (Love Preet, URegina)
  • Pion Structure Functions model optimizations (Richard Trotta, CUA)
  • Kaon Structure Functions model optimizations (Rachel Montgomery, Glasgow U.)
  • superseded or not active at the moment
  • Revisit simulation to guide the design - different interaction regions - need software to be ready
  • Reconstruction setup in Geant4 simulations (John Arrington, Shujie Li, LBNL)
  • Simulation software updates and in particular Fun4All (Bill Li, W&M)

DISCUSSION ABOUT LONG TERM GOALS 2023 Link

  • Theory
  • Interesting focus: pion TMD
  • Work on pion TMDs wrapping up on TMDs - then could consider kaon in Minkowski
  • Experiment
  • Design and simulation timleni fits - interesting: synergy between JLab energy upgrade and EIC
  • there may also be some topics left to further quantity on second EIC detector complementarity
  • Aim for meeting and/or paper
  • timeframe 6-9 months
  • Possible venue for meeting: pion TMD
  • CFNS - Abhay
  • SURA - W&M, CUA, URegina
  • CNF - Latifa
  • Action items:
  • (DONE) post the 2022 goals
  • (DONE) post the notes from this meeting with goal for 2023
  • define a workshop topic and check possible venues and time frames

KAON FORM FACTOR AT EIC (Stephen)

  • Pion generator in EIC simulation framework - expect events from simulation campaign soon
  • Exclusive events from simulstion
  • Kaon: npi0 channel in simulation
  • Run pion 5 on 41 (limit Q2>5 limitation of generator - lose events)
  • but still dominated by ratio and not statistics
  • Action item: Discuss on Monday EPIC meeting about what Meson SF needs and challenges in simulation

NEXT MEETING: December 14th at 3pm ET
