SUMMARY NOTES

SIMULATIONS

  • Work ongoing

SHIELDING AND MAGNET MODEL (Josh)

  • Shielding stacked up to top of magnet - plate added on top to make things level
  • Openings in front and back of shielding implemented
  • Flared downstream end - still need feedback from radiation simulation to finalize
  • Inlet of LCW cooling water is on upstream end - in same place as beam pipe
  • advantageous from radiation point of view: high energy particles go forward (few GeV based on e beam), energy of particles going backward is soft
  • Next steps:
  • Build rest of shield taking into account any feedback on points below
  • Need for taping on front end
  • Size of beam pipe and material needed - then can build around and make support structure
  • Structural support of tungsten powder - need more information on tungsten blocks
  • Thermal calculation for extension of core in longitudinal direction - work ongoing

ENGINEERING/DESIGN (Amy)

  • Work ongoing, e.g. thermal calculations
  • Action item: dimensions of beam pipe, etc.

HALL D DESIGN/ENGINEERING (Sean)

  • Work ongoing on front end

PAC48 RECAP

  • All comments based on close out session - report should be available soon
  • Hall D/KLong:
  • science case well received, some concern about higher level management coordination
  • Hall A/C TCS
  • Science well received
  • Main comment: need for more information on experimental setup - see if experiment is possible
  • one issue: GEM as part of trigger - high risk since never done before
  • one possible option: find out if GEM in SRO works as done for TDIS
  • Action item: Vardan present current assumptions on trigger

NPS+CPS installation - COMPLEMENTARITY

  • So far no objections based on physics

NEW CPS PHYSICS EXPERIMENT IDEAS (Bogdan)

  • Two photon exchange experiment - with photon beam from CPS better intensity, use secondary target downstream plus some detectors - need to work out details

NEXT MEETING : FRIDAY 11 SEPTEMBER AT 11AM ET
