Juneteenth Float Holiday 2021 (Click "Expand" to the right for details -->):
Dear colleagues,
President Biden signed into law on June 17, 2021, a bill recognizing Juneteenth National Independence Day as a federal holiday. Juneteenth recognizes the end of slavery as well as celebrates the culture and achievements of African Americans. This day serves as a reminder of the importance in upholding our values of diversity, inclusion and equality in everything we do.
With the designation of Juneteenth as a federal holiday, JSA is announcing the establishment of the Juneteenth 2021 Floating Holiday. Due to the very short timeframe between the Proclamation of Juneteenth Day and observance on June 18, 2021, Jefferson Lab elected to establish Juneteenth Day 2021 as a Floating Holiday for ALL eligible employees who were employed as of June 18, 2021.
Effective immediately, all eligible employees will have 8 holiday hours (or part time proration) added to their Holiday Leave pool balance. This Floating Holiday follows existing Floating Holiday usage rules, but there are other eligibility and usage conditions that will apply.
The Juneteenth 2021 Floating Holiday follows all of the Floating Holiday rules, except as outlined below:
1.) Only current, active, benefits eligible employees who would have been eligible for the Juneteenth Day Holiday observed on June 18, 2021 will receive the Floating Holiday.
2.) Juneteenth 2021 Floating Holiday is a “Use or Lose” benefit, it shall NOT be paid out if unused.
3.) The Juneteenth 2021 Floating Holiday must be used by December 31, 2021, or it will be forfeited.
4.) Employees who terminate before December 31, 2021, without using the holiday shall forfeit the holiday.
5.) Any employee who uses a Floating Holiday who has another Floating Holiday on the books (e.g. Labor Day, Independence Day, MLK Day, etc.), shall be considered as using the other Floating Holiday first and Juneteenth Day Floating Holiday secondarily.
Employees shall coordinate with their supervisor to determine a day that works with their schedule and workload to take the Juneteenth Day Holiday. Unlike normally scheduled holidays, the day an employee elects to use the Floating Holiday will NOT have the yellow shaded highlights in the timesheet system to identify the day as a Holiday. To use your new floating holiday hours, record the standard holiday leave code on the day you elect to celebrate Juneteenth in 2021.

In 2022 and thereafter, Juneteenth will be observed on the federally designated holiday.
