Keep shift summery up-to-date in HBLOG Document any beam condition change and send scaler GUIs to HBLOG Send "scaler_hps" GUI to logbook at least twice per shift or any time run conditions change Peform 2H02A harp scan ones per shift or when beam conditions changed based on beam monitors (BPMs, halo rates, beam-viewer) Fill out shift checklist in the logbook, HBLOG, using template at least ones per shift or when run conditions change Continuously check quality of data With any issue contact On-Call Experts or RC. SVT Instructions Before sending beam to Faraday cup, verify (and page expert if otherwise): SVT should be open: "Position" at 0.000 mm in scaler GUI SVT HV is off: all red/green indicators RED in SVT bias GUI The first time sending beam to the Faraday cup after the hall is closed, page the SVT expert. Run Plan:March 14-15 (morning) Setup Beam to Hall-B Tagger Dump and Studies of Beam Properties. Ask MCC to turn ON tagger magnet Aid MCC to establish physics quality CW 1 pass beam to the Hall-B tagger dump: When reasonable beam spot is achieved on the tagger dump screen perform harp scans, 2C21 and tagger (2C24) harps. Note: harp scans must be performed with 10 nA beam current MCC delivers beam that is optimized for HPS, beam profile should be small at 2C21 (X/Y widths ~50 um) and should be large at tagger (2C24) harp (widths on 45/Y/X ~300 um), see previous harp scans Make sure 2C21 and 2C24 nA BPMs read stable X/Y positions. Postions on both BPMs must be close to zero as much as possible (at least |X/Y|<1). Make sure orbit locks are on and operational Continueosly check beam positions on 2C21 and 2C24 looking strip charts. Oscilations should not be more than +/-0.05mm <* Continue with tagger (2C24) harp scans at 20 nA to check beam position and width stability for ~ 1h - scans every 15 min with two settings of the harp "Speed during scan" = 0.5 and "Time between scaler reads" = 0.1 "Speed during scan" = 0.1 and "Time between scaler reads" = 0.1 "Speed during scan" = 0.1 and "Time between scaler reads" = 0.2 Beam width in any direction should not depend on the harp scan speed, any dependence will indicate beam position oscilation If beam position (mean values of fitted peaks) are stable with <0.1 mm, and the widths are independent of the scan speed, proceed with the program, otherwise work with MCC to stabilize the beam Study beam tails as a function of current - perform tagger harp scans with different harp setting at 10nA, 20nA, 50nA, 100nA: nominal setting - "Speed during scan" = 0.5 and "Time between scaler reads" = 0.07 "Speed during scan" = 0.5 and "Time between scaler reads" = 0.35 "Speed during scan" = 0.25 and "Time between scaler reads" = 0.7 Harp settings can be changed on the GUI by typing new values in the window For harps analysis use upstream left --> When Rafayel is on shift, after 4pm, perform beam vertical motion during beam trips and recovery - turn off the beam move tagger harp (2C24) motor to ~97 in absolute position using the expert GUI ask MCC to deliver 100 nA beam, make sure rates on Struck from upstream halo counters are on order of few MHz (if needed make slight movements with motor to get desire rates). Rates can be seen not only on Struck scaler but also on Jorger scaler using fwd_scaler.ald) tell MCC that you will study beam motion during trip and recovery, so they should not bring beam back after the trip without your call start "waveform" program, and ask MCC to deliver beam, 100 nA. When beam trips stop the run after couple of minutes call MCC to see if they are ready to send the beam again, if so start the program again and ask for beam repeat this for at least 10 trips and recovery document each run in the logbook, start and end time and any details if necessary. Send HPS scaler GUI to logbook for every run Setup Beam to Hall-B Faraday cup Dump and Studies of Beam Properties. Ask MCC to turn OFF the beam, turn OFF and degous tagger magnet After tagger magnet is degaussed, change beam configuration on "bta" GUI to "Electron" Insert Chromax screen on the downstream viewer on the beam Ask for ~10 nA beam, watch cctv6 to make sure spot on the downstream viewer is clear and approximatly at the center of the screen Check to make sure Faraday cup and nA BPMs read similar curents Check beam position stability on 2H01 nA BPM If everything looks normal, rates on downstream counters are <10Hz, and on HPS-L and HPS-R are <30Hz at 10nA, proceed Use 2H02A harp to study beam profile (beam current should not exceed 20 nA), beam size should be X ~250 um Y < 150 um using downstream viewer GUI insert YAG then OTR screen. If beam is not well visible on these viewers, use the expert GUI to find proper position for each to have clear picture of the beam spot Energize HPS chicane - ask MCC to turn beam OFF, ramp up magnets to desired currents according to procedures (use the table) After magnets are at required settings (will take ~40 min) ask MCC for 10 nA beam Observe beam spot on chromox viewer, beam spot should be at the same place as before magnets were turned ON. If spot is shifted, change Frascati magnets curent to correct the posiotion - if beam is left of the original point current must be lowered, if it is shifted right current must be increased. Do current change with small steps, ~Amp After chicane is set, record halo counter rates, turn beam off and insert HPS target, 4um W Using table provided change chicane settings to move beam left and right on the target with ~1mm step. First move righ, stop when rates on halo counters will increase by several times, then move left until rates will start to go up.
