Every Shift:

Follow run plan as outlined by RC

Once BPMs are calibrated, ask MCC if orbit locks are on, they should be.

Keep shift summary up-to-date in HBLOG

Document any beam condition change and send scaler GUIs to HBLOG

Send "scaler_hps" GUI to logbook at least twice per shift or any time run conditions change

Peform 2H02A harp scan ones per shift or when beam conditions changed based on beam monitors (BPMs, halo rates, beam-viewer)

Fill out shift checklist in the logbook, HBLOG, using template at least ones per shift or when run conditions change

Continuously check quality of data

With any issue contact On-Call Experts or RC.

SVT Instructions

Before sending beam to Faraday cup, verify (and page expert if otherwise):

SVT should be open: "Position" at 0.000 mm in scaler GUI
SVT HV is off: all red/green indicators RED in SVT bias GUI

The first time sending beam to the Faraday cup after the hall is closed, page the SVT expert.

MCC Daily Meetings

Run Plan:March 21-22, 2015 (day/swing/owl)

Overview: Machine has delivered beam to Hall A. Machine instabilities prevent sending beam to Hall D. Machine will work on instabilities today, and deliver beam to Hall B, beginning with day shift. BPM calibrations are postponed to Monday--we aren't ready today, and people aren't available on Sunday. Once beams are reestablished, we'll go to backup subsystem commissioning program. Program: 1) restore beams to tagger; (2)take beams to Hall B dump and install SVT Collimator; (3) set up chicane and test beam location on target; (4)re-establish DAQ and data taking; (5) Subsystem commissioning studies: trigger commissioning studies, struck scaler studies at 2H02, SVT commissioning.

Always Setup Beam to the Hall-B Tagger Dump after long down

After MCC finishes beam tune
- make sure beam conditions haven't changed, beam position and halo counter rates are as before (see logbook from previous days)
- work with MCC to move bean position and direction to see if lower counts on upstream halo counters can be achieved (UPS-L and UPS-R)

Upstream halo counters must count <10Hz, downstream counters ~Hz

Perform harp scans to verify that beam profile hasn't changed, check with previous scan results: 2C21 x/y widths <50 micron, on the tagger/2C24 harp x/y widths ~300 micron. Use UPS-L for analysis, send harp scan results to the logbook
After beam tune is done send HPS scaler GUI to the logbook with proper comment

Setup Beam to the Hall-B Faraday cup Dump and Setup HPS.

Ask MCC to turn OFF the beam, turn OFF and degauss tagger magnet
After tagger magnet is degaussed, change beam configuration on "bta" GUI to "Electron"
Insert Chromax screen on the downstream viewer on the beam. Note correctors at 2H02 have been disabled.

Move beam with upstream correctors only This will guarantee small angles through HPS and safety of SVT

Restore 5 nA CW beam and make sure beam is ~centered on the downstream screen. Record spot.

Beam should be centered using correctors on 2C21, 2C23, and 2C24 girder

If everything looks normal, rates on downstream counters are <10Hz, and on HPS-L and HPS-R are <30Hz at 10nA, send main HPS scaler GUI to the logbook and proceed
Use 2H02A harp to measure beam profile (beam current should not exceed 20 nA), beam size should be X-width ~250 um Y-width < 50 um. Beam should be within ~1mm of recent measurements.
Record Ecal count rates top vs bottom. Beam centered vertically?
Turn beam off. Insert SVT Protection Collimator 4mm slit to its nominal position. Ecal Backgrounds? Vertically scan the collimator, measuring the halo counter rates vs vertical position. Beam should be within ~1mm of center.

Energize chicane.

If bpms have been calibrated, record scaler and bpm settings and beam location on screen.
Energize HPS chicane - ask MCC to turn beam OFF, ramp up magnets to desired currents according to procedures (use the table).
After magnets are at required settings (will take ~40 min) ask MCC for 10 nA beam
Observe beam spot on chromax viewer, beam spot should be at the same place as before magnets were turned ON. If spot is shifted, change Frascati magnets curent to correct the position - if beam is left of the original point current must be lowered, if it is shifted right current must be increased. Do current change with small steps, ~1 Amp.

Be very careful when changing magnet currents when beams are on. Must enter new current ACCURATELY. Small steps only.

After chicane is set, record halo counter rates, turn beam off and insert HPS target, 4um W
Do horizontal scan of beam on target. Using table provided, first change Frascati settings, then PS settings to move beam left and right on the target with ~1mm step. Small changes only.
Record halo counter rates and magnets currents. First move right, stop when rates on halo counters will increase by several times, then move left until rates will start to go up.
Center beam on target with appropriate chicane currents just determined. Record bpm and screen shot and Ecal scalers.
Do vertical scan of beam. Measure Ecal rates top/bottom vs vertical beam position. Record bpm 2H02 y and Ecal rates. Move beam vertically on bpm using upstream correctors, by 0.5 mm steps. Don't exceed 2mm motion.

Subsystem Commissioning Studies. Begin Data Taking.

Make sure DAQ is OK for data taking

When SVT is ready for data, begin integrated data taking. Call Omar.
