Minutes
Present: Igor, Moskov, Tim, Hovanes, Pavel, Vitaly, Beni, Marshall, Mikhail, Sashi, Sean
- Igor asked to keep the meeting under 1 hour.
- Spring run is postponed until March 7th, but the run duration is probably stays the same.
- Pavel fixed the Be target length in his FLUKA model of the SLAC experiment.
- In the low energy range (PK<3 GeV/c), the FLUKA rate is higher than SLAC data by approximately a factor 2, while at higher energies (PK>3.5 GeV/c)the two kaon rates match very well.
- High energy kaons are forward-boosted in FLUKA, which is what was expected.
- Pavel can provide FLUKA model to someone who is willing to study the SLAC experiment using FLUKA.
- Pavel also said that the 30% observed increase of kaon flux when going from 6cm to 7cm Be target was statistical fluctuation. He believes the increase is more like 15%.
- Changing the cross sections or distributions of the kaon production in FLUKA is not something we cold easily do, according to Pavel.
- Mikhail asked if we could use the ration of kaon production at 2 degrees and apply to KLF kinematics. Pavel did not think it would be necessarily correct, all data points from SLAC need to be compared and, then one possibly could make some conclusions.
- Tim would like to know if engineers could start working on the layout of KPT or downstream beamline.
- There was a long discussion on what we can fix based on the available results from studies by Pavel and Richard. The consensus was that although the downstream beamline needs more simulations, some basics parameters can already be chosen. Namely, the radiator thickness should be 20%. The beryllium target should be 7cm wide in diameter and 40 cm long. The tungsten bock should be 14cm long. This would allow engineers to resume KPT design. The other parameters for KPT and CPS can be obtained from Pavel and Richard.
- Hovanes asked if this could be confirmed by KLF leadership. There were four spokespeople present (Justin, Jim, and Eugene were not present at this meeting). All four present spokespeople agreed on these basic design parameters.
- This week Richard sent an e-mail that he will not be able to attend this meeting since it conflicts with his classes. Also, Mikhail pointed out that others may have conflicts as a new semester is starting. Hovanes will start a poll to determine a new meeting time.
