DISCUSSION ITEMS

  • Design models, stress/thermal calculations
  • Engineering analysis and planning
  • TCS updates
  • Other

PARTICIPANTS: Bert Metzger, Rolf Ent, Amy Comer, Bogdan Wojtsekhowski, Hamlet Mkrtchyan, Hovanes Egiyan, Igor Strakovsky, Josh Crafts, Steven Lassiter, Vitaly Baturin, Dean Spiers, Tanja Horn

DESIGN/ENGINEERING OVERVIEW (Steven L.)

  • 486 W blocks on site
  • Coil procurement
  • specification created - in discussion with TOKIN about specification and tolerances
  • in discussion with TOKIN about specifications and tolerances - concerns about stated tolerances applied to geometric dimensions on flatness and parallelism; conductor cleaning
  • CPS Tosca model updated to include bolt holes and cutouts
  • Prototype (Dean)
  • on site, machined and assembled
  • Working on reqs for yoke and pole
  • Yoke: 1010; pole: supermendur
  • working towards deadline - beginning August for end of year clearance
  • Insulation material and radiation hardness
  • glass resin made for Japanese magnet
  • max expected is MRad, but material should be resistant up to GRad levels
  • Started discussions with Hall D about design models

MAGNET DESIGN/ASSEMBLY (Bert)

  • Drawings almost done for yoke and pole
  • identifying vendors
  • Assembly steps outlined
  • transport stand
  • fasten coil to side yoke and shim; install
  • fasten lower yole to stand
  • check gap on coil
  • add shims - mm of clearance to be accounted for
  • fasten lower absorber - using alignment pins
  • fasten side yoke assembly
  • side yokes installed; fasten upper shielding
  • check gap on coil and upper shield blocks, add shims
  • add upper absorber and springs - still need to figure out pressure
  • add flags to leads
  • ready to be shipped to hall and can crane in place
  • Testing cooling paths on 3 different models (see below)
  • Clearances
  • W blocks and cutting for special shapes
  • Drawings for yoke assembly expected to be done in about a week
  • Survey adjusters to align magnet; fine tuning with beam
  • Length of leads will depend on amount of shielding - Gabriel is working on that
  • Action item:
  • check with Gabriel on status of the simulations

FLUENT CALCULATIONS - WATER COOLING CHANNEL ANALYSIS (Amy)

  • Goal: compare Fluent compuration to by-hand for verification
  • investigating 3 major designs with multiple cases
  • results are very encouraging - ongoing work to interpret the details

NEXT MEETING: FRIDAY AUGUST 19 AT 8AM ET
