Vacuum Controls Meeting Notes – 10/18/2017

Our intent is to set up a vacuum control system with SLAC designed He scavenging pump cart, SLAC specified Ion Pumps and controllers. We would like to keep the vacuum implementation as similar to LCLS-II as possible.

o Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLC system will house all the interlock logic.

o Serial communication will exist between Gauge and Pump controllers to EPICS.

o EthernetIP connection to the Vacuum IOC running on the LERF Application Server.

o Vacuum Controls will need 2 Ethernet ports on infrastructure (Channel Access) network (1 for PLC – EPICS communication; 1 for terminal server – serial devices).

o The provided remote programming desktop will have network access to the Vacuum PLC. Ideally this will be via the same network connection as EPICS communication.

o SLAC will provide detailed documentation for the system including wiring diagrams, cable cut-sheets et al. JLAB will wire the hardware and procure the required wiring material.

o Hardware (Provided by SLAC):

He Scavenging Pumpcart : 1 CCG + 2 Pirani (MKS 937B) Turbo Pump (TCP 350) 2 Pneumatic Valves

Coupler Vacuum : Ion Pump + TSP (QPCe + TSP module) 1 CCG + Pirani (MKS 937B)

Beamline Vacuum : Ion Pump (Gamma QPCe) 1 CCG + Pirani

Allen Bradley PLC Crate (PLC + I/O Modules) PanelView 5500 – HMI Panel Terminal Server for serial communication Follow Up : He Scavenging Pump cart is expected to be designed and built by Dec 2017. Shweta to confirm with CAM (Karen Fant) that LCLS-II is willing to ship one unit to JLAB for LERF Shweta to confirm with CAMs (Karen Fant, Sung Kwon) to confirm loaning of Ion Pumps, TSP and Controllers to JLAB for LERF Shweta to provide sample rack profiles and calculate required rack space for Vacuum Controls Shweta or Matt to provide a Allen Bradley Controllogix PLC (possibly L7 instead of L8) to test remote desktop -> PLC programming setup.
