For the Mott polarimeter we are making a real top-down assessment with improvements where objective is a test of the polarimeter precision. To do this we are addressing various areas:
 +
 +
: improvements and measurements of targets and collimator acceptance
 +
: reduction of backgrounds through lower-Z materials and TOF laser pulse selection
 +
: fully new Geant4 model of polarimeter geometry, including polarization processes
 +
: theory estimates on Sherman function, dominant systematic uncertainty
 +
: higher beam power mode of operation for systematic studies
 +
: modern parity-style FADC based DAQ for beam instrumentation and detector collection
 +
: new HVPS control system
 +
: improvement of signal:noise
