* !! Chicane magnets can be energized only when the hall is in Beam Permit, [1]. Chicane magnets must be off if the hall is in Restricted or in Controlled access.

* The vacuum gauge used in SVT interlock (2H03) is broken. Watch the gauge 2H02, in case of a vacuum event valves will close and the beam will be shut-off. If the event is at 2H02 (loss of vacuum near HPS chamber) call SVT expert immediately and follow his/her instruction.

Run Plan June 17 - 18, 2019 When beam is back Establish beam to the tagger dump. Establish beam to the Faraday cup. Move beam by 3.5 mm upwards using position readings on 2H02 BPM. This operation must be done with SVT and beamline experts. Using the expert GUI record position of the collimator. Record rates in HPS-L and HPS-R halo counters Move beam in small steps, 0.2 mm, until rates in HPS-R and HPS-L will double, approximately Move collimator with 0.01 step up, this means putting -0.01 in the "MoveRel" window of the expert GUI and hit return (the absolute value of the position should decrease). You should see ratesd on HPS-L and HPS-R go down to the levels before moving the beam. Continue until rates will go up again by f~x2. Record collimator position Repeat last two steps until beam is at the desired location. From the last collimator motion center the collimator on the beam. Record rates and colloimator positon Ask for beam current ~50 nA beam and with SVT expert perform SVT wire scan to find the position of the beam relative to SVT. Only FSD node HPS Down must be masked. If beam position needs to be adjusted, work with MCC ops to move it to the desired position using position reading on 2H02 BPM. If adjustment is in the vertical direction, then with the beam motion, SVT collimator must be moved as well. Steps of the motion must be the order of 0.2 mm, so if you need to move beam vertically by 1 mm, it will take 5 motions beam-then-collimator to get there. After adjusting the beam position, perform SVT wire scan again to verify that beam is in the correct spot. If needed, adjust it After finishing beam positioning, record BPM values, send the scaler GUI to the logbook, perfomr 2H02 harp scan, record results. Restore ECal and Hodoscope Turn on HVs on ECal and Hodoscope Check the ECal and hodoscope rates without a target at 50 nA, make a snapshot of the sacaler GUIs for both detectors and send to the logbook. Make note of the highest rate position on ECal. Insert the 4 um W target and check ECal and hodoscope rates at 50 nA. Make a snapshot of the sacaler GUIs for both detectors and send to the logbook. Continue ECal/hodoscope and trigger rate, and FSD thresholds/rates studies with 4 um W target and up to 400 nA beam. Note: thresholds on FSD must be changed while scanning. Record rates in the logbook. Call beamline expert if needed. A 30 min run for each current setting, starting 100 nA and go with 50 nA steps. Record: main scaler screen ecal scaler gui trigger rate gui Live time Total Trigger rate The DAQ Configuration: without and with SVT PROD66__NOSVT and PROD66, respectively Trigger file: hps_v1.trg Take random trigger data, two 4-hour runs. Important Notes: Do not run more than 60 minutes above 30 nA without the beam blocker in front of Faraday cup. Put beam blocker in for long running at high currents.

General Instructions DAQ RECOVERY If DAQ crashed/broken: For every daq crash login into clondaq3 as a clasrun then run the following command clasrun@clondaq3:clasrun> save_DAQ_logs.pl (See [2]) Reboot DAQ completely.. If the procedure fails to restore DAQ, call Sergey (DAQ on call) without any further disturbing the DAQ status. Establishing Physics Quality Beam for HPS: Make sure SVT is retracted and both SVT and ECAL are OFF. First send beam to the tagger dump: Check that beam type is set to "Photon" (HPS_EPICS->Beam->BTA). Position "Blank" on the beam for the Hall-B collimator Ask MCC to turn ON the tagger magnet and then deliver <10 nA beam to the tagger dump. Check the beam position on the tagger viewer, it should be approximately in the center of the screen Follow instructions under "Procedures" on the documentation tab for "Beamline"[3]. To tune the beam on tagger dump and perform harp scans beam current should be <10 nA. Check profile using 2C21 and tagger harp scans, and compare the positions and widths with previous scans ([4],[5]) Positions on both harps should be within 1mm Width on 2C21 should be <~0.1+/-0.05 mm Width on tagger harp (2C24) <~0.35 +/- 0.1mm Halo counters UPS-L/R and TAG-L/T/T2 should be ~few Hz/nA [6] Before sending a beam to the Faraday cup If HPS chicane must be ON, make sure that chicane GUI says "Chicane Ready" Check that SVT protection collimator is ON HPS target is OUT and ECAL HV is OFF SVT is OUT (position=0.000 mm in main hps scaler screen) and HV is off (all red/green indicators RED in SVT bias GUI) If any uncertainty, page the experts The first time sending a beam to the Faraday cup after the hall is closed, page the SVT expert. Pay attention into following corrector values: 2C22H, 2C23V, 2H00H, 2H00V, Compare them to ones that are in [7]. Make sure their values don't differ more than 100%. If there is such difference, tell MCC about this. Send beam to the Faraday cup If the beam optics is correct, then you should immediately see the beam spot on the Downstream Viewer and on 2H00 and 2H02 BPMS. If you don't see it immediately, and rates on halo counters are more than 100 Khz, then ask MCC, to change to pulsed (tune mode) beam, and ask to put corrector values. At this point don't accept any CW beam, until beam spot is visible on Downstream Viewer. If MCC operator is not able to tune the beam more than 30 minutes, then please notify RC Follow the instructions under "Procedures" on the documentation tab for "Beamline"[8] to establish beam to the electron dump. Note: in order to have reliable readings on two important for HPS BPMs, 2H00 and 2H02, beam current should be >30 nA. Ask MCC to establish 30 nA beam with HPS orbit locks on (We need HallBHPSOrb not HallBOrb configuration). For orbit lock positions on 2H00(X=0.00,Y=0.00) and on 2H02(X=-1.00,Y=-0.85). Use the 2.82 mm SVT collimator. . Tune beam profile at HPS using measured widths on 2H01A and 2H02A harps. The required beam profile at 2H02A harp is: X-width <~0.05 mm, Y-width <~ 0.05 mm. Beam profile using 2H01A and 2H02A harps with previous scans ([9],[10]) to compare. Check and log the beam spot on chromax viewer The halo counter rates before HPS must be low: UPS-L and UPS-R few Hz/nA, The tagger counters should count less than Hz/nA and downstream counters should count ~Hz/nA The halo counter rates on HPS, HPS-L/R/T/SC, depends on the collimator and HPS chicane settings, but should not be more than 100 Hz/nA [11] Positions on BPMs must be close to what they were before [12] Once all the above is achieved, turn ECAL and Hodoscope HV ON to monitor and log ECal rates Insert the 4um W target without turning off the beam. Before accepting beam, make sure all the previous conditions are met. Always read previous log entries, compare settings of BPMs and correctors with previous settings using scaler_hps GUI. Setting up the FSD threshold When you are about to calculate FSD limit, it means the beam is already established, and the target is in. To calculate the FSD threshold run the following executable hpsrun@clonpc11> /home/hpsrun/scripts/FSD/Calc_FSD_Threshold.exe Note we use 1 ms integration time and want 5.5 sigma away from the average rates Allowed tolerable rate increase default is 15%, if that causes many trips, then contact RC, he might suggest to increase that number Make sure if MCC operator set the FSD limit and integration time correctly

Every Shift: Follow run plan as outlined by RC If any concern about beam stability, ask MCC if orbit locks are on (they should be). Keep shift summary up to date in HBLOG. Record all that happens. Check on white board all scalers, strip charts and monitoring plots that need to be logged regularly Document any beam condition change and send scaler GUIs to HBLOG Fill out BTA hourly. Click "Load from EPICS" to automatically fill the left side. Fill and submit the shift checklist in the logbook Perform 2H02A harp scan once per shift or when beam conditions have changed, based on beam monitors (BPMs, halo rates, beam-viewer). During harp scans SVT must be retracted and HV should be OFF. With any issue contact On-Call Experts or RC
