Target Meeting (Hypernuclear experiment at JLab)
- 23:00-24:00 on Oct 29th, 2023 EDT (12:00-13:00 on Oct 30th, 2023 JST)
- Participants: David Meekins (JLab), Toshiyuki Gogami (Kyoto Univ.)
- via ZoomGov
Discussion

Target list (only solid targets for the next run)
Approved
- E12-15-008: 40Ca, 48Ca (150 mg/cm2)
- 40 is easy to obtain, but not for 48.
- Dave asked Oak Ridge National Lab. to purchase the Ca material.
→ No response yet.
→ Dave will contact the Lab.
- E12-20-013: 208Pb (100-150 mg/cm2)
- The thickness needs to be fixed for design.
- Cryogenic system is likely to be needed for cooling.
- ∼20 μA would be OK to apply.
- Common calibration: 12C (150 mg/cm2), CH2 (500 mg/cm2), 27Al (150 mg/cm2)
Proposing next year
- LOI12-23-013: 6Li, 9Be, 11B (100 mg/cm2)
- A 90%-level of purity is easy to obtain for 6Li.
→ The Li material with a better purity is possible to prepare but it costs more. - B4C is easier to obtain than a pure B.
B4C would be OK, but the pure B is much better in terms of spectroscopy.
- A 90%-level of purity is easy to obtain for 6Li.
- LOI12-23-016: 27Al (100 mg/cm2)
- LOI12-23-011: there may be special needs.
Some comments
- Solid targets are planned to be used for the next run.
But, the target system should be compatible with gas targets (E12-19-002) to save total manpower and cost. - ERR, for example, in Mar is possible for the (solid) target part.
- Requirements for the target (position accuracy etc.) need to be summarized.
- Target camera
→ Beam position adjustment by using a carbon-hole target is more standard nowadays. - The target group will work on a scattering chamber as well.
- Let's keep using MS Sharepoint for sharing information and documents.
Next Meeting
