Kerr - August 1, 2016
Today we learned a lot. Measurements within Magnetic field are not ideal as we are unable to pinpoint the strength of the field with the Kerr Apparatus.
The first measurement led us to the conclusion that the system was still faulty
Next we fastened the steel puck tightly with the holding device
We created a new puck holding device and the Kerr signal followed a somewhat symmetrical path with only a .2 Volt (DC) decrease as opposed to a 2 Volt change in DC
We then moved the whole stage to a much farther distance from solenoid with smaller angle with a very clear signal
Seeing this signal, we measured a mirror with the same set up
Then the Molybdenum Puck, there was a large change in Voltage (DC) and a reversal of the sign of the slope making us suspect the puck to not be as fastened as the initial steel measurement. Not exactly sure how much I trust this measurement (may repeat it)
After the unexpected molybdenum behaviour, we measured the steel puck again to test the signal's repeatability
